If not already mentioned, can't forget Loaf & Ladle. Some of the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had.

A few other old places...The Hour House at Third and ? (Behind the Acacia House) where the Subway is now, the infamous one that Jerrod lived above and lost all that weight because of it. There was the Colorado Steakhouse on College as you came in. Yes, I ate at the Mexican place you speak of, after a Bucket Game we had just lost. It was in an old Howard Johnson’s, I believe. Sulley’s used to be a nice restaurant where Malibu is now. I think it used to be Whiteside’s, a men’s clothing store at one time, if not next door. Bruce’s was a great breakfast joint on Second St. It had lots of IU sports memorabilia like Kent Benson’s shoes. The Gables was always good for late night pizza or grilled cheese sandwich when not playing pinball. I saw the movie, Fantasia, in the Von Lee theater. Everyone was stoned and really got off on the dancing artichokes.

Hour House, (which later became Jarrod's Subway), was at the SE corner of Atwater and Woodlawn. (across the st to the east from the Optometry Bldg).

i think it might have been open 24 hr.

across Atwater to the north on Woodlawn is a parking garage where The Hideaway restaurant once stood in an old house iirc.

iirc Sulley's full name was Sully's Old Oaken Bucket, and Whitesides was on the southeast side of the square.

not familar with Bruce's, or any restaurant at all on 2nd st on the east side of town, so maybe west 2nd.

i think of Ladyman's as Btown's power breakfast spot. (i'm not a morning person myself).

saw some Rolling Stone's flick and Spinal Tap at the Von Lee, only movies i ever saw there. (i'll guess lower seating capacity kept them from getting bigger movies).

strange how Fantasia totally fell off the earth.

yes, Colorado Steak House was on N College a few doors north of 17th as you drove into Btown from the north..

Bruce's was on west 5th just west of Rogers and the Salvation Army. Juanita's is there now. It was a muddy boots working class greasy spoon specializing in hearty breakfasts and lunches. Not a white collar to be seen in the place, except for Bruce. But that was his uniform -- a white tee shirt.

My Dad took us every Saturday for breakfast. We used to eat at the Big Wheel often too. Duffs buffet after church. Mustards had the best cheese sticks. My Bloomington is gone. Grandfather took us to layman’s quit often. Grouchy Evelyn was the waitress.🤣

My parents loved Mustards. They would go there on their way to or back from Indy when they visited my dad's brother. I've told this story before, but once when my oldest son was around 10 I took him to an IU game. We ate at Mustards before the game. To my amazement he downed a regular hamburger. I couldn't believe he finished the whole thing. He really earned my respect.

I'm in Evansville and pretty much all the best places here -- with a couple exceptions -- are thin, cracker crust pizza. The exceptions are Azzip (which is a quick-bake, make your own style place) and a place called Pangea (which specializes in Detroit pan-style).

I'm not usually big on super-doughy deep-dish or pan pizzas, myself. That's why I never go to the Giordano's or Lou Malnati's of the world when I'm in Chicago.
Do you ever eat at the Slice on Lincoln across from UE? Eric is an IU alumnus.

Yes, and I know Eric pretty well. Interesting guy. He also has a degree from Cornell...it’s kind of surreal to see it hanging in his little pizza joint.

Yes, I thought that too. I think he managed some big hotels/restaurants in his time. His pizza is good and with several different varieties from what I was used.

Is Avers still around? That was probably our most consistent choice back in the day. They had a specialty pizza with white sauce, potatoes, bacon and gorgonzola that was I recall that we ordered a lot when wanting something different

They are still making pies.

Cream and Crimson

You've never had Mr. Gattis. People slam it but it is really good imho. In fact we are probably going to get some when we are on vacation on the 9th as we head down to Washington IN to see my Dad. The restaurant is in Martinsville.
Gross. Just gross.

But you like cicis as well right?
