Damn, this is a ringing endorsement for Beard from a pretty good source.

JFC….the simple minds around here have created such a hilarious narrative here. “We need a good coach, not a choir boy!!”
“Who cares about character??!”
“If this administration cares about winning, we’d hire Beard….”.

IU can absolutely hire a coach *just* as good as Beard without having to risk the fallout of hiring a potential ticking time bomb. This false dichotomy that only an edgy, rough coach will get results here is super weird. It’s almost as if some people here think the secret sauce with RMK was actually his controversial off-the-court behavior. Coach K and Dean Smith did just fine without the extracurricular stuff. The list of great coaches without extra baggage is long, and no, they weren’t choir boys either.

Let them do their due diligence with Beard, and see what they find. My guess is it’s not good, or he would’ve been hired by UK or Louisville.
This is no indictment on the jest of what you said... but I am tired of the Coach K choir boy sh!t narrative that the main media created with their love fest for him. He learned from Knights down falls how to play up to the media.

Before Cronin. Before the DV incident. Beard was actively campaigning for UCLA and UCLA took a hard look but didn’t like what they found.
Actively campaigning? The dates don’t match up. The national title game was April 8th. Beard would have been busy making a run to the title game. They hired Cronin on April 9th, which means it was a done deal prior to that. Beard wasn’t going to UCLA.

Are we certain that Beard is an alcoholic? If so, you can't hire him if he's still drinking (people have said on here he is).
People are full of shit and slander although they know nothing. I’ve spent a lot of time around Beard. Not aware of any ongoing personal struggle. I’m not aware of any issues with his first wife or from his 3 daughters. Ask Pat, Downing and Robinson. They worked with him closely for years

Last time we hired a solid basketball coach with a shady past, we ended up shitting the bed. If we hire Beard, all it will take is one little misstep and it will completely blow up in our faces. This next hire will be our 4th coach in 8-9 years. Not sure IU can afford to take the risk at this point.
What ifs…what if Sampson learned his lessons and is a better coach now…what if Houston would have passed on him and went with a guy with no baggage. Would they have been in the Big12? Would they be a powerhouse? What if Chris Beard has learned from mistakes and is a better coach and person for it. What if he is going to win big the next time he gets a deeper and athletic roster?

It is the slowest and TMP pointed it out weeks ago. The question is does he run that system to win with the talent he has? He might but should IU take that risk? Probably win a bunch of games but that system won’t attract championship type talent.
I totally agree that's why I rather take Tony Bennett if we're going to watch slow grind out games.

No thanks. That show lost all credibility when Galen started making a "hear me out" case for throwing $10M a year at Painter. Having a podcast doesn't make someone any more knowledgeable about basketball than the rest of us.
I know but the numbers don't lie Drake is like in the 300s in pace and adjust offense.

If you want to play the "Dipshit Podcasters Game," fine. Dakich--who knows far more about hoops than these Internet clowns--said McCollum is the best coach in college basketball, period.

Also, have you considered Drake's roster dictates its playing style? It's BM's first year there, so he inherited some of the roster.

In any case, he's a yes for me, he's a no for you. Nothing more than differing perspectives.

Big difference.
The Sampson thing was a huge risk because it had to do with infractions within the scope of the NCAA.

This is a private matter. Which was dropped.

NCAA doesn’t have any say or care what happened off the court in a lover’s spat. They didn’t care when Painter knocked up a cheerleader or the found out that Todd Golden is chasing tail on social media. All this stuff comes and goes.

You are correct. Perhaps it is just coincidence that UCLA, Louisville and UK all found better candidates than

Stop listening to people that act like they know shit.

Dakich is an idiot-doesn’t matter the topic being discussed.

Hell my little league coach would drink from a paper bag and smoke good stuff in his truck before practice. No one gave a damn. It sure is.
I had a basketball coach that occasionally was in the bar too long before games. He was actually a good man and we helped him along.

Think Bad Santa Claus-yeah some personal problems but a good man under it all. Infinitely better than a knee jerk moralist covering over a bad person.

My buddy pranked Dakich and told him he was from eastern Greene county. Scroll to 46:30.

Dakich is the dumbest human I’ve listened too on basketball. How he was ever let coach is beyond me. There is a reason he has been fired from everything he has ever done in life related to basketball. He is an ego maniac that just sucks at winning basketball games.

Listen to him? God your nuts. Should have deleted this post. lol.

All these people worrying about a coach representing the university and then you have this idiot with a diploma.

Tell your friend very funny.

A good source? Only if you want to know how to pay players, knock up the wife of the equipment manager and pay for her abortion, or deliver hookers to his players. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of his other greatest hits.

Rock solid guy to listen to.
Now, now, now.......It was an assistant coach's woman (not sure if they were actually married), paying players is legal now and he did NOT know about the hookers. No violence involved. Rick might be a little "high class slimeball" but he's a media darling this year.

I don't know all of the details, but it's my understanding that the charges against Beard were dropped.

they were, but she was frightened enough for some moments to call the police.

think about your own marriage...that ever happen to you?
