I didn't mention Miller. Buying influence is like schmooze money when businesses wine and dine their clients, only in the case of pre-college or college athletes, it is against the rules. So they make sure all of the funneling occurs before a school ever gets involved and that way it appears clean.
In this case, whether it happened or not depends on who was paid and how much. A small stipend to coach a team and supply a few tournament fees is probably fine, but if it goes beyond that it is essentially stamping a shoe brand on a kid then helping to steer him to an appropriate school of good standing with the brand.
