Currently 7th Place In Conference

We have played one game against a team, Illinois, ahead of us in B1G standings. They whipped our ass. At home no less. Our 5 wins have come against teams with a combined 11-23 conference record. I am not buying anything on IU. Show me we can play a better team competitively and not give up and lose by 20+ points.

We topped out during our exhibition victory over Tennessee.

“Look, guys, we’re sitting here, you know, we’ve won 14 games, man. We’re 14-5. It’s not like it’s 5-14. We’ve played some pretty good basketball and had some good stretches,” Woodson said.

This is a concerning comment. It shows me he doesn't know the difference between a Chevy Camaro and a Ferrari Competizione 812. He doesn't see that it's mid January and he's already about one more loss away from missing tourney despite paying millions to luer highly talented recruits in the off season.

It shows me he doesn't understand the game by game edge that requires a highly competitive mindset- every game.

It shows me his expectations do not match the fan base nor the University's historical feats, and perhaps it shows he undervalues the IU fanbase in general, or underestimates our basketball knowledge.

If he thinks they are going to just flick a switch and start beating all the top teams in the conference and winning consistently against top 25 foes, then maybe he has done very little coaching to get them this far, because they are getting beat handedly by every good team they play, and that takes a lot to reverse.

Defiance isn't going to cut it. Mike Woodson needs to acknowledge openly that this team has underperformed all season and is currently not playing like an NIT team, let alone an NCAA torney team.
They need to be a lot better. And they need that now, not in early March when they have 12-14 losses.

Agree. I hate talk about NCAA tournament - compete for BIG title and you’re in the tourney. Let’s do that (unless that’s asking too much).

After Maryland Woodson has to start playing the likes of purdue, wisconsin, and michigan state. If those are blowouts then nothing has changed.

Bingo. When I look at the schedule, it’s possible we we finish with 12 league wins (best case) going 7-5 over next 12. Or, we go 5-7 and finish league play at 10-10which is about par for the Woodson course. I think everyone can agree whether it’s 12 or 10, it would be a disappointment. Will see how it all plays out. In my poll I did before January, I predicted 8 wins in league play.

Even if he wins two of those, has this team or what he's done in his tenure here suggest we're likely to be a perennial power again? Hell no in my mind. With this level of talent and experience, we should have been ranked all season.

Agree. Our water level with Woodson at best is vying for a top 5 finish in conference and hoping to get to the S16. At best. He is a 10-12 conference wins a year coach and will get blown out by good teams and lose in convincing fashion in any end of season tourneys. That has been the case since he arrived and is trending thus same way again this season. There is nothing to suggest anything will change / improve.

It's both the current situation and the future. He has to bring in half a team of transfers again next year. There is no real building from this team.
If he fails to make the tourney this year, he can't look at anyone and convince them IU will be better next year.

I think the decision has been made, and nothing short of a B1G championship and/or a S16 or F4 could save him.
As it should be- held accountable to the goals he set for his program on day one. Woodson don’t go out like Biden hanging in too long to avoid being reviled.
