rumor is he’s flying into Bloomington on 2/14.

Pros of this hire
-he’s a tough, hard nosed coach
-he’s from the Midwest
- he has won everywhere he has gone, including 2 major programs
- fun/brash with the media

Why he would take it
- he knows the passion of IU bball
- he’s tired of travel of ucla’s schedule
- his salary is just $4mm
- get back to the Midwest

Beard would be first choice. Cronin not too far behind.

Cracks me up ..... the fanbase for four years have bitched about boring offense and stupid rotations and yet ... Cronin ie stupid rotations and boring offense.

Note: stupid rotations are not near as stupid as Woodson's, nor are they as tweaky and weird as Pearl can get ... but he goes way too deep and with two many sub ins and outs. He does so to keep high energy on defense but that comes with a cost to player's rhythm offensively. He cheats the off for def. His offense sucks donkey nuts. Beard as boring as he can get, at least knows how to sub.

All champions (15 on, 30 sec era) have certain common characteristics to them .. def>off, long benches, constant subbing .. are not one of them.

Elite offense top 3% combined with 10% def, short depth, long stints, are.

Indiana plays UCLA on 2-14 how is that a rumor?

Reminder: Mick Cronin has a reciprocal buyout. If he leaves or is fired before April 1 of this year, the price is $20 million. It’s then $16 million from April 1 until March 31, 2025.

For any school to buy him out would be historic. UCLA has a bit more breathing room to fire him because of the offset clause, which means they likely wouldn’t end up on the hook for the full amount assuming he takes another job.

That said — UCLA would be absolutely crazy to fire Mick Cronin, no matter how bad this year gets.

Plus he has two daughters still in high school. Maybe the fires in LA play a factor. I know he said when he got kicked out of the Rutgers game, the first thing is did was get on his phone and check the status of his house and his family during those fires. He is also a big complainer and rightly so, of the travel schedule for his B1G games. Has complained more than most coaches, including B1G football coaches.

Can’t stand him he’s not good enough for IU. He hasn’t done anything

Completely agree, but I still think you have to take a run at Lon Kruger. Gotta make him say no first.

I'd be a little surprised if he left UCLA. It's a lateral. Might use us to get a salary bump.

He does seem to make his teams better, and he'd probably win enough to keep the fans happy.

He is a little older than I'd like.

Rumor is he’s bringing the entire UCLA team and staff with him. Gonna go see Assembly Hall. Might even play a game.

Conference placings
Murray st: 2nd, 2, 1
Cincy last 6: 1, 3, 3, 2, 1, 2
UCLA: 2, 4, 2, 1, 5

Beard: 3, 2, 1, 7, 2, 1, 3, 6, 4, fired, 10

Izzo last 10: 3, 2,5,1,1,18,7,4,6

I would argue Beard and Izzo are top coaches. What records are you looking at? How do you define average?

.68% career winning %
22 years as a head coach
4 sweet 16’s and 1 final four
4 conference championship
6 missed NCAA tournaments.
So I would say pretty average

Not happening. He loves living in LA, and now thanks to Mick they finally have competitive NIL

Interesting. Next, give me a coach that has a way better proven success record that IU can get.

I would
I would say much higher upside with Dusty May
I would love May and would be a great story. May would be my first choice as he’s an Indiana guy and seems very likable. But, to suggest that he has much better proven record at the highest level is intellectually dishonest.

Cronin is 22 years into his career. May is 7. Both have 1 final 4
