Darian DeVries and the Indiana Hoosiers are on the board. The Hoosiers beat out the Iowa Hawkeyes for the commitment of DePaul transfer point guard Conor Enright. Enright was linked with Indiana University before he had even officially entered the transfer portal. Once he was officially in the portal, the veteran point guard became the first prospect to schedule a visit with IU (although not the first to actually be on campus) and the Hoosiers were labeled as the clear leader for his commitment. Enright was on campus on April 1 and 2 and he officially pledged for the Hoosiers on Wednesday, April 2.

This is going to be waaayyy too dramatic, and theatrical...

But one of the first things we notice as a sign of new life is a heart beat. Conor (and Tucker) being the first new Hoosiers, under DeVries, could end up being fitting...as I suspect one of the main reasons we were on Conor as hard as we were, was for him to bring the culture and heart beat for the program. Gotta establish what IU bball is, before going to get bigger, stronger, faster, better guys that will fit the IU culture. Lots of groundwork laid to get to this point...DeVries will only ever have 1 "first" signee, at IU. Maybe its good that its someone like Conor. Assuming he is the type of kid he sounds like he is, Coach DeVries will have that narrative that it was fitting that Conor Enright was his first signee at IU.

There are some things about him that I find interesting. First, he had a hell of a lot of assists at DePaul. He had 9 games of 8 or more assists, including 2 with 11. Now...he also had a lot of TOs.......6 games with 5 or more TOs. Overall, he had about a 2 to 1 A/TO ratio which might have been made worse by playing on a sucky team.

Also, he can shoot 3s. He's at .371 for his career, with .439 his last year at Drake. This year he was only .325 at DePaul, but he hurt his shoulder around 1/5/25 and played with it a month before shutting things down. Before the injury, he was exactly at 40% for the year. So there's reason to think he might be a 40% 3 pt shooter here. Last year he took about 3 1/2 3s per game and a slightly lower # of 2s, so he's a pass first guy.

One bothersome stat is that he's only a 67% career FT shooter. This year he was only .633, and there was no evidence it went down after his injury. His last year at Drake he was at .725, so he's probably around 70%.....that's what he was for his 2 years at Drake.

Overall, very Leal-like in his 3 pt and FT shooting..........

One other thing to consider....Seyton saw a lot of his games and was not a fan. Maybe he can do into some depth about why.............

Never believe a kid is a great shooter if he shoots less than 80% from the FT line. They go hand in hand. I could see it through a few games, maybe for a season if he just rarely goes to the line, but if you're a good 3 pt shooter you're gonna be a good FT shooter.

I agree. I would be curious if Joseph Yesufu was his first non-Tucker portal add last year. The reason I say that is, Yesufu had played for him before and was an important piece at WVU as a back-up pg. The dead period will be good for IU I think. There will be more players to choose from and when names start committing we can see the method behind the madness.

Why is this exciting?
First commitment, so we're on the board and have knocked the stink off. That's what I'm excited about.

I think it's good (not necessarily exciting) because he's played for Devries before at Drake. He knows the expectations and system. Can be a nice bridge between coach and guys who are new to the system. It's what Cig did and talked about when he brought his JMU guys.

Edit - I said signee originally and should have called it what it was, a commitment.

I agree....that's why I called him Leal-like.....both in terms of volume and success rates. At least if he's a legit 40% on open 3s you have to pay him some attention. That's ok with a pass-first PG.

well, I put the count at 3: DeVries, Enright and Sisley. Heckuva 3 on 3 team. They'd kill it at the local Y on Saturday morning!
Mountains start out as molehills, flat plains even, tectonically speaking. All insects require patience in metamorphosis, including you, Grasshopper, sarcasm aside.

That has to bea
And at least 8 have to be fast athletes who can go coast to coast and shoot the rock.Oh and defend too.
You would hope so. I saw Connor play three or four times at Depaul last year and if he is starting well it could be a long year. Decent player but nowhere near a starting if you want to be top 5 in the big ten.

Cupp reminded me of every 6 foot-white guy-all state honorable mention-walk on-from eastern Kentucky UK has had on their roster since I was 6 years old.
The summer before he got here many on the boards had him starting as a frosh. Just like CJ Gunn was going to kill it his sophmore year and Rice and Carylye were going to be one of the top backcourts in the big ten. It never fails every summer the pump up on some guys is just beyond crazy.

I think that describes fans of a lot of schools with “overly-excited” fan bsses. UKs last year was Travis Perry.

Visions get distorted in the anxiousness of time unknown. We’re due for a new player to actually exceed their expectations, another AJ Guyton perhaps. Our poor luck is past due to turn into good luck…an OG Anunoby kind of sophomore surprise.

It happens every summer like clockwork and guys get really mad if you question what they are saying. I mean last summer some had us going to the final four an if you said take a step back they lost it. That was mostly on twitter. But for the most part the rankings were right on with cupps as I believe he was ranked like 150th or something like that.
