Coach interview

For me, finish in the top half of the conference, do something respectable in the BTT, make the NCAAT without any bubble drama would be acceptable for year one. Improve in year two.
We should at the very least get back to being a shoe in for the big dance every year. Wouldn't that be something different?

Would you say your interviews of players was all business and not a circus show? Biggest mama's boy on the team? If you had all the money in the world where would you go?
Glad you remember the questions, i for sure don’t. I did it as a one time thing to show people on here I could basically lol. I even had a poll on what I should ask.

should have stuck to the original plan and had Tamar get cav rules rivals on his shoes.

With a $7M NIL budget? We should expect Dusty-level results in Year 1, not 7th in the B1G and an 8 seed.

I agree, that's a bare minimum acceptable. Year two and after he will have to be really hitting his stride and showing something or the seat heater gets switched on. I'm actually not expecting it, and think we will see results similar to what he got at West Virginia this year. Granted that's only one year, but it's also a "first" year in a big conference for comparison. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

The conference is tough and there are going to be a lot of big budgets, and there are many great coaches.

I'll take a team that looks well coached. Make the tourney without sweating it out, Top half or up in the B1G. If we pull off a Dusty May year great, but the above is a nice step forward, with probably relatively the same budget, as the price to play poker is growing so fast. What was huge a year or two ago will be down the rankings this year. And even the highest budgets get only marginal gains over lower spending. I haven't heard of players beating down the doors yet because of who our coach is and being Indiana. I'm sure coach will build a fine team though.

Some years we'll get more success. Maybe this year, or maybe much more - deep tourney runs, conference titles. But first year all I care is that the nightmare is over and we can see light.

This 💯. I can’t wait to see sound, disciplined, fundamental basketball again. Not saying DD will check every box, but I expect it to be night and day from what we’ve been fed for far too long.

He had only 1 returning player when he took over WVU last year. 19-13 seems pretty good considering he lost his 2 best players to injury, one after just 8 games. They beat Gonzaga, ISU, Arizona and Kansas(on the road). They should have been in the tourney before IU, O$U and certainly UNC. He did the same thing when he took over at Drake.

Well said. Considering that 13 of Dusty's 27 wins were decided by four points or fewer, it's hard to say whether even Dusty himself could replicate his first-season success if the games were replayed. As Chris Beard put it, the first year is all about establishing the culture. That said, I’m confident DeVries is the right guy. Even if IU doesn’t make the Sweet 16 next season, he’ll have the program rolling before long.

On a somewhat related topic there needs to be an investigation. How could a drunken brutal psychopath make it to Sweet Sixteen with Ol’ Miss. He must be threatening referees-maybe taken members of their families hostage. Time to investigate is now to save lives. zeke should head the investigation, it won’t take her long at all to sniff out the evildoing.

Ahh , looks like some guys are going to whine about our pick as a coach for a long time just because their specific guy wasn't hired?

Man, at least the board will be busy, because a lot of coaches out there had support here.

Complete BS. I am not whining about DeVries just pointing out that in fact Ol Miss made the Sweet Sixteen. Sorry that facts are often not in conformance with opinions but there you have it.

Small sample size but CDD appears to be no nonsense and reserved off the court. Comes off as authentic. Unlike Woody starting every sentence with "well...", he has a more natural flow to his responses. Unlike Crean, you don't get a feeling he's trying to sell you season tickets every time a mic appears. Unlike Archie, he doesn't appear put out to answer more than two questions. Time will tell if this is his standard approach.
