CKW Monday comments

No players were suspended. The coaching staff decided internally that they would not play. I am not sure what the nuances are but I think an internal decision would exclude a failed drug test. Examples of activities that could result in such actions include not going to summer school class or missing a spring practice. If you were a redshirt freshman and were not eligible to play last year a no-play penalty would be carried over to the first game of the next year.

CKW needs some public relations help. The statement on Saturday said there would be no further comment. And today there was a further comment. There is still need for further comment. But I feel a bit better than I did before watching the 28 minute video that was put up this afternoon.

CKW also pinned a lot of the defensive lapses in the SIU game of the coaching staff.

One thing I think IU tends to do is try to overcompensate for a weakness. They were afraid the backfield was going to get burned so they made a game plan that made it harder to stop the run. They did the same thing in the Iowa game last year. They were so afraid Iowa was going to gash them on the run and they came out slinging and scored four touchdowns in a hurry. I think they would be better off to play straight up and see what happens. I tend to agree that a lot of the blame was on the coaching staff.

According to CKW the communication from the defensive coaches to the players was much too slow which resulted in a great deal of confusion as to coverages.

Maybe there was some confusion as to coverages but at some point our guy simply has to beat their guy. Our front 7 struggled getting off blocks all day and put little if any pressure on their QB.

All nine players listed prior to the season opener against Southern Illinois were suspended for that game, eight of whom had a one-game suspension that they served on Saturday. Tegray Scales was given a two-game suspension, which he will finish serving at Saturday's game against Florida International."

I know the NCAA is mulling over eliminating the test for TCH since the compound does not produce a competitive advantage. There will be big parties in the coaches office all around the country when that happens.
