Been on X checking receipts. He was going to FSU/Florida book it. 😉🤣

I said this before, but if I am Scott the deal is structured with massive incentives for all coaches and does not get us into another untenable buy out position.
I'm fine with the incentive being "here's a huge pile of mostly guaranteed cash, so you and your guys can keep doing what you love, for Indiana."

There is always a risk when you sign someone up to a big contract that probably has a big buyout. But the risk/reward here looks pretty good and it made sense to go for it.

It’s only an untenable buyout when you want to fire the guy. If they’re successful, it’s the necessary poison pill to keep them from being poached.

Damned if you do/don’t if you’re an AD.

The question of how much Cig owes if he resigns and how much IU pays if they fire him are two separate contract terms. One doesn't technically have much to do with the other.

Interested to know how those terms changed in the new agreement. Since it appears we are paying him about 9 million a year, I assume both numbers went up significantly, but I don't know where they were before.

$4.5 million salary, $250k retention bonus.

Technically true, but the negotiators would be doing a bad job if they weren’t close. “You us $10M if you leave but we owe you $1M if we let you go” (or vice versa) isn’t gonna happen. I’m not sure how close they end up being normally but I assume they’re typically fairly close.

OK. $8 million.
Yeah, I went and looked it up. Cig would have owed us $6 million if he resigned after the season. We'd have owed him $18 million if we fired him without cause.

6M nothing to the big boys. Smart to renegotiate before a school in a recruiting hotbed bought a brings truck.

I assume both buyouts went way up. Kinda risky 10 games into year one, but that's the cost of doing business these days in college football. If we didn't do it, some other AD woulda gladly paid us 6 million for the privilege.
