If you couldn’t scare up a good time in Chicago yesterday, that’s a you problem. It doesn’t get any better than late August/September in Chicago. It’s just an awesome time to be in that city.
I might go up there for Labor Day. Any places to stay you would recommend?

I always liked staying in Lincoln Park. Lots old bars with characters. My cousin lived in Lincoln and took me to an old shotgun style bar called Shoes. Served like 4 different beers. Smelled bad but everyone in there knew each other. It was like the scene in Gran Torino at the barbershop. Everyone called each other by stereotypes. You could walk from bar to bar. My cousin was funny. He asked me if I liked bar food and took me to another place. I ordered and asked if he was ordering and he said he hates the food there. He had Jimmy John’s delivered for himself. Dick! 🤣

I love these threads. It opens up a whole host of memories and discussion. Thanks Kurt and drunken Kurt.

drinking a boxed of water in the room never heard of such a thing , takes me back to elemantry drinking shitty chochlate milk out of a6 ounce carton , trading beets and 50 ce3nts for a peantue butter sandwiche , probably was the beginning of my enterpurial success

All they had in the Bahamas was the cardboard cartons of water like the unbelievable chocolate milk back in the day. UNBELIEVABLE

What were the shots delivered in?

at least you didn't get a 9mm slug in your ass, and become one of our weekend body count they talk about on the news every Monday morning.

If you're getting bad pizza up here, you're not going to the right places.

Sounds like you’re ok with spending a little, so the 5 stars downtown will be good. Peninsula is where the opposing NBA teams playing the Bulls stay so…. Nobu opened a hotel in West Loop, and that neighborhood has a lot going on these days for food/drank.

Gave up on the Windy some years ago. So different from when I regularly traveled to and through. Scarface would relocate from current environment. To bad, used to do be a real treat.

Was looking at the Waldorf. Looks nice. I like my spa days.

Maple and Ash is a block or so away from Waldorf if you’re into steak. I would pick it over Gibsons on the viagra triangle any day. My Chicago steak house rankings can’t be f’cked with:

1. Bavettes
2. Swift and Sons
3. RPM Steak
4. Maple and Ash
5. Gibsons Italia (not regular Gibsons on Rush).
5b. Chicago Cut

No Gene & Georgetti's? I admittedly haven't been to Bavettes or RPM, so it's an honest question.

It’s a nostalgia pick for people from the west burbs and the older crowd in general. People who live here don’t go there. Similar money to my other mentions, food way better at other places.

Definitely long in the tooth like The Drake… I feel similar about Gibsons on Rush. But, even Gibsons in Rush is better than G&G.

Gibsons Italia on the River bend has maybe the best dining room in the city. Steaks are better than the original location and the pasta’s are top notch. Plus a bunch of hookers hang out there so great people watching.
