Chicago Bears/NFL fans? What should they do?

The doom loop continues. This season is lost. The schedule is about to get BRUTAL. Eberflus and Waldron have lost the locker room. Eberflus will (hopefully) be gone after this year and we'll be bringing in a new coach to go with a second year QB who will have to learn a whole new system. One year of development in the offense out the door.

Bears fans have been clamoring for years, bring in the QB and the coach at the same time. They had a golden opportunity to do it last offseason and they punted AGAIN. Before I die I hope to see the Bears act like a big boy franchise just once.

That's not going to happen until and unless McCaskies are gone.

We seem to be in the worst of all possible worlds with a QB who might be a bust but with management who will stick with him longer than they should. Again.

I am still high on Caleb. I don’t think there is anyway his floor is lower than a long time starter in this league. But we’re going to ruin him.

He's clearly not a "generational talent." We missed out on another haul.
I don't know what I would have done, but I do know that my spidey senses on him not being who many were making him out to be...appear to be more right than wrong.

It was an impossible situation for Poles. Trade that pick away, and have Williams doing what Daniels is doing now, in Washington
, and he probably traded away his career at the GM level.

It did seem like there was quite a lot of smoke around Daniels being the most NFL ready of the group though, before the draft. Maybe because of that, Washington wasn't overly motivated to trade up?

I would have traded down to 2 or 3 and taken Drake Maye. I also would have been fine with trading down from 3, getting a project QB, and then going out and getting someone like Sam Darnold.

I think Poles and the Bears front office are the only ones in the NFL who couldn't figure out they have a terrible O-line, and that O-line is very, very important.

I floated this idea as soon as they knew they had the 1 this past draft. Trade that pick early on to Washington, for a kings ransom. And then evaluate Daniels and Maye. And potentially trade again down below 3, and get another Kings ransom. End up with a guy like Nix. Also bring in a guy like Darnold, or Flacco maybe. Use the double kings ransom to build a young elite Offensive line, and plug any defensive holes.

I had the same thought. Although I wanted Maye

I don't see why every one is giving up on Caleb. No QB could succeed with this O. Line and offensive scheme. None. The guy probably has PTSD at this point. The first 3 draft picks next year need to all be offensive lineman. What a crap show. Bears management and coaching are rivaling the Donald Sterling Clipper years.

Watch the compilation of his nine sacks last week. On 4, he's holding the damn ball too long and he's responsible for those. Where have we seen this before?

He's too short, can't see downfield well enough, and has to have lanes opened up for him. His scrambling ability, at this point, is net zero since many times he evades a rush only to lose 10 yards more on his scramble. And he's very, very inaccurate. Jury is out on his ability to actually read a defense well.

I would spend every dime on FA linemen as well, next year, AND draft at least three linemen in the first 5 rounds of the draft (THAT. AREN'T. INJURED!). But above all, I'd fire everyone from George on down.

2 of the 9 sacks were on him. He's played 9 games with bad coaching and an awful line. Calm down. The organization is a crapshow still. I don't believe Poles or Eberflus should keep their jobs. There is no excuse for not bolstering the off. Line. In the offseason.

Said it before and I'll say it again, SELL THE TEAM.

I went back and watched highlight films of Daniels, Williams, Stroud, Bryce. Trying to figure out whether it could be seen who was better. Daniels' film was filled with mostly great throws into tight windows in perfect spots. Stroud had a lot like that too but also more highlights were to open guys. Caleb maybe less tight window highlights than Stroud, more throws to wide open guys. Bryce the most film of throws to wide open guys and few tough tight window throws. About like I'd rank them now.

I figured, that makes sense... If you can make those throws, they fill your highlights, even though you make a ton of throws to wide open guys too. If you can't make as many of those throws, your highlights have to fill with more regular open guy throws.

LOL, I'll see if I can pick the best guy ahead of time next draft just watching for that.

It is a crapshoot. There are reasons they were all ranked so high but you never know how their game will translate to the pro level. I am not out on Caleb yet. He deserves a chance just like Fields. Fields was not the guy. They did the right thing to move on.

My nephews, Bears fans, were pleased with the result yesterday. I was pulling for the Lions, but like the Bears as about my third team since I grew up watching them in Indiana.

Anyway the dialog was "Yeah, that's great, team looked much better in the 2nd half, Caleb is improving, didn't hurt our draft position, and Eberflus will probably get fired now," We all agreed it was a good result.

He's gone. Hopefully it won't be a case of be careful what you wish for. Next coach starts with a good prospect at QB. I've come around on Caleb. Once he learns, he's going to be good.

My concern is that they think their next head coach is the guy who started the years as the passing game coordinator, because he can call plays better than Shane Waldron.

I have just the coach you should go after...

If the Bears were a well run organization, Poles would be leaving with The Flus.
My top 3 candidates in no particular order: Ben Johnson- off coordinator Lions, Mike Vrabel, Brian Flores -dendsive coordinator Vikings. Johnson is the hot name and is creative and young. Vrabel would bring a much needed discipline to this group. Flores was treated badly by the Dolphins but is a proven defensive guru.

Think it has to be an offensive. Although Vrabel would prob be OK

Poles looked like a hostage up there with Warren.

OTOH, Thomas Brown’s presser was great. That guy is more of a leader than Waldron or Eberflus could ever hope to be.
I don't trust Warren. Seems like a good example of the Peter Principle. I didn't think he was great when he was with the B10 either.

The Bears have always hamstrung their coach and gm with front office bureaucrat's. Warren = Ted Phillips.

They’re afraid of big personalities and coaches and GM’s with autonomy. It creates an unworkable environment.

Example A. We pass on the best available coach because he may actually assert control over decisions.

I’m not expecting Ben Johnson or Vrabel. Look for someone they feel can be controlled like Marcus Freeman. Rinse. Repeat.
