Grandson goes to IU.
He sent me this message.
Looks like CCC is on top of it.

Coach cig has them practicing with noise over the loud speakers at home... you can hear it from some parts of campus.

I would also find a small IU student, a male under 5’6”, dress him in a leprechaun suit and have him at the practices running around talking shit to the team. For two weeks straight. Just to keep a chip on their shoulder.

Does the practice field have real grass? Anyone with knowledge on the subject know if the difference between grass and fake grass is significant?

The Ohio State pregame, commentators were speculating on whether Cig had piped in noise to practice for the environment. One guy said well if it wasn't Cig's standard routine he may not have done that because he wouldn't want to do something different for the 'big game' when he wants his players to prepare like it's any other. I thought "I sure as hell hope we did that!" Although I've seen in the past some coaches say they don't think the practice noise helps much or had reasons against it.

I get the reasoning for not changing a routine if it might emphasize 'big game' coming up, makes sense. But part of the routine should be preparing for conditions. Leading up to the Ohio State game I hoped we practiced some with wet or slippery footballs since there was a chance of shit weather. I don't know if we do that, but it may have sharpened our punt snap concentration if we did. I'll trust Cig to be on it, and his guys.

They piped in music several weeks at practice. Including for home games.

Probably will need two of them... Bomba will probably put the first one in Intensive Care... Best he gets that out of his system prior to Kick Off though so the potential lawsuit would probably be worth it... 😉😎

ND had turf put in a few years ago. The ND crowd can be loud at times, but not sure how many students will be there for the playoff game.
ND crowd is well known for being somewhat older in age and relatively calm for games. Many go to games as it relates to status. EX: "I was at the ND game on Saturday", even though a good amount have limited knowledge about football.

Of all things next weekend, I'm least concerned about crowd noise.

I've never heard a football game as loud as the Shoe was. I'd hate to have been a Michigan player one of those years where it was a top 5 matchup.

As a sloping bowl (vs how vertical the Shoe is) with 20k+ fewer in attendance, ND crowd noise isn't going to compare to what they've already faced.

That just leaves a very good ND team to play.

Also the question is whether the OSU sound was rattling the players or just interfering with on field player communication and things like snap count. If the latter, making sure you’re locked in on non verbal communication is probably the vastly more important than piping in crowd noise during practice. But also having 3 weeks between games gives some flexibility to running practices. I’d guess next week will probably be more a standard game week practice structure/routine

I was there as well but under the upper deck and couldn’t tell because it was just loud. Period.
I was in A deck and it was loud. I don’t think they pumped in sound but they played music up until the snap but unless you were next to a speaker, I’d say it was more than likely crowd noise. IU was playing in front of the OSU student section when they struggled the most.
