The B10 and ESPN are severing ties after the 2023 season per ESPN and the conference.
CBS,NBC and FOX will carry the games starting in 2024.
I’m sure someone much smarter than me will share the link soon.
I’m not the most savvy computer guy, sorry.

I posted this on the pay site so I'll copy it here:

Considering that ESPN is now in 24% FEWER homes than it was a decade ago.... it has fallen to somewhere around 75,000,000 .... To put that in perspective, in 1999 the old Speedvision Network was available in 75 million homes and, at the time, that was at least 1/3 fewer HH's than ESPN. ESPN has been taking a slow, painful fall for some time now....

I think it's a no-brainer for the B1G to let ESPN leave the room.... The combination(s) of FOX, NBC and/or CBS creates a much wider variety of providers and they won't be competing directly with the SEC for the premium time slots.

Glad to see it, too.

Can't complain but reason given ?

I'm going to be pissed if they are going to carry them on their premium networks.

I'm quite happy with Hulu+ live TV, Netflix, & Prime as-is. I don't want to end up spending more than I used to with cable to get Peacock & whatever the other networks streaming deals will be.

I’m seeing prime might get peacocks content too.

Looks like ESPN probably doesn’t have enough money to pay for all the content they want. F them.

DING-DING-DING!!!! .... You're the winner of the chicken dinner!! Yep, they don't have enough options to layoff the programming so they can get the required return on investment. Instead of expanding their ownership in to all of the available carriers the way NBC, FOX and CBS did, they've stayed too stagnant to afford the B1G... Believe me, it's not that they don't WANT the B1G... They just can't afford to pay anywhere near what the B1G contract will require and at the same time keep the SEC, which they're under contract with for another 10 (?) years or so.

The SEC f’ed up by not going after markets too. The B1G is positioned to do very well because they made very solid business decisions. The SEC crowd doesn’t understand that the B1G led viewership and revenue already. They also can’t grasp that these companies pay regardless if the cable/streaming companies get all the viewers. Basically it moved the B1G network to basic in more viewing areas and households. They pay wether they watch or not. That’s why a team like UCLA is more valuable to the B1G than say a Clemson or Ga Tech.

Speculation is that the Big 10 will add more PAC teams in the next year or so.

As things stand now, they are set for Noon on Fox, 3:30 on CBS, 7:30 on NBC (after ND) with top 3 games/week.

NBC is going to pay ND, and ND will stay independent.

Big 10 still has a 10:00 window for games involving USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon & Stanford. That would be prime time on the West Coast. I think Cal gets left out and #4 comes from Colorado/Kansas/Arizona. These teams will come in at less than 100% shares....maybe 2/3 for first 10 years or so.

ND will struggle finding opponents at some point. Won’t be enough quality teams left to schedule.

Nebraska ad alluded to this.

Alluded to what, specifically, in his post?

Please, and thank you.
That more realignment is coming sooner than we might think. It was an interview. He was pretty open about it too. Like the SEC just lost the pie eating contest and sucked at pin the tail on the donkey. Sticking with ESPN probably hurt them.
Edit: the interview disappeared. Can’t find it now. 🤣

I've always said that either one of the AZ schools would be a better addition than Cal, especially if the B1G adds Stanford. With UCLA and USC and, most likely Stanford too, the B1G has the state covered. With that Cal doesn't add any significant viewers or ad dollars

I prefer AZ St. over U of AZ simply because it has a larger alumni base and it's based in Phoenix....

Adding the #11 TV market ... and one of the fast growing DMAs ... is a look toward the future... Cal, not so much

I think Stanford will be in. ASU, Washington and Oregon probably too. Stanford vs Michigan for the academic bowl.

There are a lot of BT grads in Cali, so even the lower marquee USC/UCLA games against the rest of the tilt will draw eyeballs.

i guess you can't wait till your cable bill is $550 a mo.

if games aren't available without buying extra sht, recruiting goes in the dumpster.

be careful what you wish for.

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU 200 million households as of Jan 2022.

FS1 and FS2 139 million homes.

ESPN and ESPN2 rank 3-4 in cable networks that carry sports content (TBS and TNT rate higher by about 200k HHs but obviously carry far more than sports).

ESPN is still king shit when it comes to cable sports programming, don't kid yourself.

What? This deal is mostly on regular network TV and ESPN has lost market share every year. They’ve been an almost dumpster fire of crappy programming for years. They already cater to the SEC. So now they get what they ask for. If you haven’t noticed the B1G hasn’t won anything yet their popularity is still higher than the SEC. The numbers say so. Hopefully the flood of cash helps. ESPN will reap what they have sowed. Inmho.

Not anymore. The B1G just lopped off over a 1/3 of their clout. They don’t have the money.

ESPN is in for a rude awakening.

The info I provided above was after this date. They still tower over FS1/2

If you put both main channels head to head FS1 is leading. That’s were the main tier 1 content is. 80 million vs. 75 million. They are losing 8-10% a year while Fox is gaining. You think splitting with the B1G will not change those ratings even more? Also, with cable losing households espn platform going forward will make those other channels worth less and less.

ESPN is the 2nd most watched channel on cable. FS1 is 38th. The ESPN audience is over five times that of FS1. The new Big 10 deal will be great for the member schools, but ESPN likely didn’t mind pushing up the price their competitors will have to pay while still being the carrier for the ACC, the SEC, and their respective networks.

That’s not the issue. It’s how many homes it’s in not viewers per se. ESPN main channel has 75 million households FS1 has 80million. The info is there. Read it. The B1G is also winning the viewership battle. Markets matter and ESPN just gave up a big chunk.

I read the info. The viewership battle is easily won by ESPN, who has over five times as many viewers as FS1. I understand the household figures, but ESPN still outpaces FS1 by a considerable margin.

Don't kid myself?.... That's funny... You need to stay in your lane.....

Where in the hell did you make up those numbers!!!!
They're way off!

You are duplicating the individual or "cume" number of HH's,... times 3!!.... You can't count the same HH's two or three times. If a HH has ESPN they almost always have ESPN2 and U.... it's part of almost every cable companies package. No system offers 2 or U as individual channels... you have to have ESPN main first.

That proves to me you don't know shit about the business and how it works....

Now that the must-carry over-the-air nets, NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX have begun expanding their streaming outlets the days of ESPN being "King Shit" ARE over.....

Having been the Producer on over a thousand sports programs for ESPN and every major net, except for FOX and CBS I have more than a little knowledge of what I speak.... What about you?....

Even though I'm now retired I stay in contact weekly with my oid friends who are still making decisions on what you will be watching today, tomorrow and in the next few years and my numbers are correct....

True... the SEC locking down TV markets like Little Rock, St. Louis and Tulsa isn't anything to brag about....

I’m with you.
ESPN does a better presentation of college football and maybe even basketball (although CBS March Madness is so well done).
The announcing team is more engaging. With exception of ESPN+ when that lady, who is like nails on a chalkboard, is calling a game.
I like ESPN analysis better. They have the entire day devoted to nothing but football.
Tune into CBS and you might have to watch an episode of Gunsmoke in between games.

Personally I think FOX has a better pre game show than ESPN. They do a terrific job of actually breaking the games down. I also like Joel Klatt and Gus Johnson. I don’t know if Gary Danielson and Brad Nessler will stay with CBS when the SEC leaves but they are very good. On a very positive note… The days of having to hear Beth Mowins will be ending.

I think what people are missing is the viewership stats as opposed to the HH penetration. We look at the guide to see what is on ESPN, and we do that pretty often.

FS1 is an overflow utility channel. We go to it when our game has been moved there. I can't think of a time I have tuned in FS1 unless a specific game (90% IU road game) is there.

I don’t. The B1G and ESPN have been moving away from each other for a decade. The campy analysis from the game day crew has been turning people off especially with SEC slant. ESPN has dictated what the experts should talk about than real analysis. This is why FS1 has been gaining on them. The only thing that has kept ESPN going is they are on in sports bars. I saw an interview stating this and the numbers back it up. I can’t tell you the last time I watched espn at my house or on my phone. Only time I have is at the bar. That’s how they get those viewership numbers. You wait and see what happens now with the B1G moving away from ESPN. Bars will be forced to change the channel.
