That’s a pretty smart clause. It looks like UK is demanding a contract buyout from either Heaven or Hell (I’m sure they don’t care which) before they let Cal move on to the afterlife.

You might be right, then again as was pointed out, once the OAD rule is shitcanned Cal might just have to get by on coaching guys up instead of overwhelming talent. Simply put, the expectations under this new deal are more lofty than any other coach has faced. and colleges don't pay 8 million a year on a lifetime contract for anything short of multiple championships. He might be up to the challenge, or he might fall back into old habits. But hey, UK seems much more adept at skirting the rules and hiding it than UMass or Memphis, so it might work out in the end for your favorite team and coach.
Or he might be better with the new rule. Only about 3-7 kids will go to the NBA from HS. That means he’s working mostly 10-30 type kids and getting them to stay multiple years. That may actually help him. There’s absolutely no evidence that he will fall off.
Do you really think only 3-7 will go to the NBA from HS? 2018 NBA draft had 15 freshman (OAD's) go in the first round and another 5 in the second round. In 2017, 16 went in the first round and another 2 in the second. 2015 had 11 in the first round 4 in the second. And there are quite a few sophomores being taken each yer as well. The number of underclassmen and Euro players drafted outnumber upperclassmen by 2 to 1 or more. I believe you are going to see double to triple your number drafted out of 64 selections straight out of HS, and that number will likely increase with time The game has changed since 2006, the NBA is much more willing to take a kid with little or no college experience. And there will still be OAD's and TAD's, those kids 15-50 who will leave after 1 or 2 years. It's going to have a profound effect on college basketball.
And when they get beat by a team that doesn't have all those five star recruits it makes it that much sweeter.
There has to be a lot of UK fans who don't like the slimy character that the school and Cal has. How can you feel good about winning if you had to cheat to do it. Think of Johnny from Karate Kid had won because he cheated. Would he be as happy to win that way?
It's all they've ever known. Cheating is ingrained in the culture in Lexington like horse breeding. Rupp was notorious (but would never cheat to get a black kid of course). Joe B. Hall had Melvin Turpin (straight out of the projects) parading around in $1000 camel hair sport coats. Eddie Sutton had his son taking SAT tests for recruits. Cash spilling out of FedEx packages to recruits. Pitino and his typical shenanigans at every stop. Slimy Cal, he of the two vacated Final Fours.
You know the old saying at UK, "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin".
It isn't much better if at all than the Tubby years considering all the 5 stars Cal gets. Cal should pay Gillespie some money because he has conned UK into thinking he is must have because BG was a buffoon. Cal is just riding the UK coattails.
