Braden Smith

He’s the only ball handler on their roster, so of course he’s going to play. Why did Painter go so hard for seemingly every available PG in the portal last year if he was confident in Smith?

I will never root for a PU player regardless of where they came from.

They are 3-0, you are correct. They’ve beaten two low majors and a team picked to finish 9th in a bad Big East. Very impressive stuff. We can add you to the Braden Smith fan club. IUnorth has already been elected President in a unanimous vote, but with very little effort you could become Vice President!
I never said Painter was so confident in Smith, all I said is that I think he's already exceeding expectations for a freshman PG ranked where he was coming in. I agree they are weak at PG, as I stated, so that alone explains trying to add PGs in the portal, even if he believed Smith was a diamond in the rough.

Painter did seek a more experienced PG via the portal. He had an incoming freshman he thought would be good but wanted insurance at the position by getting an experienced one as well. I think that to most, that would make perfect sense. We can reasonably infer from Painter's subsequent comments that he is very pleased (and I think somewhat surprised) by how well Smith has adapted to college basketball in a very short time.

He’s got a negative assist to turnover ratio. He came into last nights game shooting 30% from the field and 28% from 3 to go along with his negative assist to turnover ratio. He got hot last night. No different than we saw from Eric Hunter, IT, or the countless other non factor PGs Purdue has had over the years.

I think we should all run to your board and brag every single time IU beats a mediocre opponent.

Got it, you seem to suggest that the stats of two games into a freshman season of a player allows for an accurate projection of his career. Who knew that was true?

First of all, I do not make a habit of coming over here after every game. I do it rarely so your allegation is false - something you have been caught at previously on this board. If I recall correctly, I believe that you have said that you have used different "names" in posting in the past. If so, who knows where and when you have posted.

I do not know at this point whether Marquette is mediocre or not. The same can be said of the Big East. In each case it is early in the season and time will tell. At this point, the B1G is 3-1 against the Big East (PSU, NW & Purdue.) In 3 of the 4 games, the BE has been the visitor. I prefer to see how the other games turn out before making a judgment on conference strength.

Note the correction of previous error. I forgot about Monday night. I was at a funeral serivce.

I've never seen someone love preseason rankings as much as you. Lol they are worth nothing, yet you talk of them like they are gospel.

And you seem to think that stats for 1 game into a freshman season allows for an accurate projection of his career. Maybe wait till midway through conference season to project Smith to be a good player.

Marquette is garbage.

I've never seen someone as obsessed with their rival as much as you. There are numerous Purdue fans who show up here after any sort of success seeking Big Brother's approval, but you are here by far the most often.

I don't need any of your approval. I just enjoy the conversation with other big ten fans. Idc what iu does tbh. Couldn't tell you who they just played or who they play next. Or when. Trust me. My obsession with iu is much less than yours with preseason rankings. If I'm obsessed with iu because I discuss sports here, what am I with Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern, and Illinois, and others?

one thing I do know....preseason rankings have about as much value as.....free message board opinions. UNC preseason #1 but barely even playing like they belong in the top 25. MSU not in preseason rankings but looking like top 10.

I'm on record many, many times....rankings mean nothing until February.

If you have the time to frequent those boards as much as you are here, then you may want to look into getting a life.

I've got a major "I told you so". to some of the posters here about Smith. I was the first poster on him and posting videos of him as a soph. I believe you were always interested in him as well. What I saw was a cocky/confident kid who played balls to the walls and was unselfish on the court, shot over 90% on FTs and 40% or so on 3s, was quick as hell with the ball, and was dying to come to IU and be a four year player here. Also, there was always something special about him as a passer. At the very worst, he would be depth at guard who would help against pressing teams and help to close out games. A lot of that got lost in the Luke Brown debate.

When we didn't get Smith I figured he'd go to Butler and be a pain the the butt for 4 years. Worse, he ended up with PU.

Anyway. I questioned Archie for going after Demeze and not Aaron Henry, and for not offering Braden Smith. I got a lot of "So you think you know more than CAM..........blah, blah". Also, "Smith has no D1 offers........."

Good news is that idiot is gone. I hope the Cupps kid is as good or better than Smith. I know he's not a 90/40 shooter, but he is taller and is a leader.

Yes, those were yesterdays stats. He is currently shooting 50% from the field, 90% from the FT line, 45.5% from 3.

Nope. We're the big brother in this abusive relationship. It's time we start acting like it again.
Big Brother in our minds only! Little brother's don't beat BB's 9-10. I think we sacrificed that title until we at least sweep them and go farther in the NCAAs! Hope that's this season!

Agreed 100%. Or Texas A&M football being top 5.

He's damn close. He's 83/39 with a season to go. He had nearly a 3:1 A/TO ratio last year which is off the charts good.

Keep in mind Cupps is now one of 6 players to ever win Mr. Basketball in Ohio as a junior. The other four? Jim Jackson, LeBron James, OJ Mayo Jared Sullinger, and Luke Kennard, and while this isn't indicative of Cupps future success, all five of those players were future first round picks. He joins very elite company.

Oh dang, you got me. Ouch. What will I ever do now that I found out everything I have going in life is pointless because I check this board a couple times a day. If only I did cool things and enjoyed life to the fullest. Shew.

You might check Cupps stats; he's not far off. I think when I looked he was around 85% on FTs and 40%, if not a little higher on 3s. Plus he's proven himself at the highest level in AAU and is a winner on his HS team. I had hoped we'd find a spot for Smith somewhere, but understand sometimes things don't workout and don't blame the kid for taking the scholly from PU. But, I think everyone is going to like Cupps!

We got JHS instead of Smith... Shoot.

Because he had 1 hot game. It's like you didn't read the whole post. Miller Kopp is shooting 75% from 3. Do you expect that to continue or do you expect water to find its level?

Man, I hope so. It's been a lot of years wandering in the desert with IU bball. So many things have sucked, but I think the losing streaks to PU, WI, UM and even Rutgers have been the hardest to swallow.

I so badly wish we played at Kohl this year. That streak is beyond ridiculous and every time it looks like we've got those goons beat up there, we shit the bed in the 2nd half and fold.

Is there a path where UM doesn't make it if they lose to OSU? I think there is.
possibly, if it's a very close and impressive UM loss, OSU then chokes big in the B1G champ game, and some strange crap happens in the SEC.

sorry, thought you asked me the opposite question....Wash taking out Oregon made it more possible that both OSU and UM make it in. I don't follow the SEC conf as much...can UT still get into SEC champ game? If they can, and win...and with GA, then yeah it could get crowded in that top 4.

Well at least now you know.
I'm just amazed at the skill you have to determine what is going on in people's lives by never meeting them. Jobs, people, time management, etc. Can you predict the future accurately? If so, bet you are making a lot of money off people wanting to know. I don't need to know mine, I already know.

If osu and um lose, 3 SEC teams. Get ready for it! Haha

Plenty of paths.

-TCU going undefeated
-LSU winning the SEC Championship
-USC winning out

Michigan's best win is Penn State who is the most overrated team in the CFB top 25. Ranked 11 despite ZERO top 25 wins.

forgot about USC...they keep lingering just outside the mix, but with a couple loses from above (which is gonna happen) they could sneak in. They'll probably drill N Dame by 2 TDs plus.

USC's defense is atrocious. They'll likely win a shootout next week against UCLA (both teams scoring 40+) by virtue of having the better offense but wouldn't be shocked at all to see ND beat the Trojans. ND should have a field day running the ball and keeping USC's offense on the sideline. But in the event they do beat UCLA and ND and then turn around and beat the winner of Oregon/Utah in the PAC 12 championship, a 12-1 USC would get in over an 11-1 Michigan team. In my opinion.

Since you post under other names, who says you are not posting after every game now? Also, I do not post here regularly after other games so your statement is blatantly false. Show me another recent game where I did so. I do not control others and I am not responsible for whatever anyone else does.

You also make another false statement: I never made a projection about what Smith's career would be, based upon one game or more. I simply pointed out that his stats in this game contradicted your projection of him. It remains to be seen how he will turn out. It is fair to say that so far, your projection of him isn't looking so good at the moment. Who knows, you may be right over time, but he doesn't seem to be the disaster that you predicted at the moment. You might want to check out Smart's comments after the game. It might cause you to rethink.
