People who bitch about the NBA crack me up. They run the best action, they are the most skilled. It’s better basketball. It’s not even close.

Kansas' offense is as simple as IU's and as predictable. One huge difference is that Self always seems to have an All conference PG running it ..

Which goes to show, it really doesn't matter what a team runs, or what it's called .. what matters how a team runs it.

And who the coach is of course.

I think you can be good running anything. You have to have to right personnel to run your stuff well. Woody has the talent this year to be able to run something well and win games. I just hope he figures out what that is and the team executes and turns it into wins. I like some of the stuff they’ve been running this season.

Time will tell…

Booker has not lived up. No where close to 5 star
Izzo has had a long list of 5 stars that have underwhelmed ..

Agree... I only mention it because it seems many are infatuated with complex offenses, and/or single posts .. when there's a lot of successful teams that have neither. Kansas is currently #1 with a simple offense, underwhelming shooting, double post, and tons of post iso .. boring AF.

fwiw I like complex offenses (aesthetically pleasing) and single posts with a true stretch four.

But ya can't always have what ya want...

IU has been markedly better when they’ve pulled bigs away from the basket, and played with even a little movement off the ball. The only marginally decent offensive team Woody has had, TJDs senior year, they only got marginally good when they pulled TJD further away from the basket and had him start passing out of the post earlier.

Id have shut up a long time ago if Woodsons teams had been successful running his stuff. They haven’t, despite having some really, really good bigs. And I will shut up if he starts having consistent success this year running his stuff. Until that happens, I’m gonna bitch. It ain’t working.

Woody has the pieces to make it work. He has them in the wrong places.

Bidunga's probably 3 years away from having a solid offensive game, until then he'll just be a menace defensively and on the glass.

I like this 5 out stuff Pope runs.

Watching ACC and/or SEC teams/games is usually much more entertaining/enjoyable/interesting than watching Big 12 or BT teams.

Yeah, early in the season but UK looks like they’re in good hands.
It is early, but Pope is a good example of what is possible when a school with UK/IU's resources, hires someone that runs a system that really any type of player would be excited to play in.

And in the end, its just a lot more interesting basketball to watch.

I'm putting all my optimistic thoughts and hopes behind Woodson really focusing a lot on the pick and roll stuff, and the pinch post stuff. And as TMP has mentioned in this thread, that he'll get Malik and Ballo to kick the ball to open perimeter players more out of those actions. He got TJD to start doing it effectively his senior year, lets hope he can get this years bigs more willing and able to make those reads and kickouts.

And then whenever its time for the next coaching search...just go find a coach that's had some success, that runs an offense that high level guards and wings will clamor to come play in. And then let the IU NIL machine take over.

Pope threw that roster together in about 3 weeks. has the 5-star talent coming next year, unlike Cal though I think he will add experienced talent to go along with the freshman. in other words, they are set up for a 10–15-year run at the top level of college basketball. what did you think of Flagg last night his numbers were great, but he has some work to do imo. only 17 so the sky's the limit but he will definitely need to add strength and work on his ball handling at the next level.

Flagg gave the game to UK on 3 successive plays to end it.
Yep, and his coach put him in 2 of them. The third, he didn’t block out on a free throw (that’s maddening at all levels.)

Maybe those three plays will be outliers, but they were back to back at the end of a game.

Great talent but still things to work on (and he is only 17 yo). Will be interesting to see how he responds.

I’m pretty much with you here.

The big downside is that CMW has already told us things like, we shoot enough threes, and that he’s doing his job, and so on.

So the optimism that he will get it done now isn’t that high for me. Of course I would like to see it. He has a pretty talented roster, according to most all pundits. But I’ll believe it when I see it.

He’s put himself in the position he’s in. We’ll see how he handles it.
