Correct, in part. There was some kind of issue away away from the ball, IIRC between Barnes and Isiah that RMK wasn’t happy about. I think both coaches had T’s within the first 5 minutes of the game!!
This was back in the day when the BT schedule basically flipped…your 8th game opponent (PU in this case) was then your 10th game opponent (You also closed the season against the same team you opened the BT schedule with, games 1 and 18).
So IU and PU played consecutive Saturdays. IU led most of the 1st game at Mackey, only to blow it in the last 5 minutes. The IU bench was not happy with the treatment they had gotten from the fans behind them in WL and RMK told King as much after the game up there. Apparently coach wasn’t happy with King’s lack of concern.
So game 2 at AH, the next Saturday, was heated start to finish!! Thus the early T’s. Happy with the game 2 win and in a playful mood, Coach said something like “I invited Purdue’s George King on to give their point of view….” then “Jack” made his memorable appearance.
