Allowing someone to live in less restrictive conditions would be cruel and unusual? That’ would be an 8th amendment issue.

Not sure I agree. He or his handlers are using his religious beliefs as an excuse to hurt victims families. Fvck him, he enabled it.
Some of the families have come out voicing their disgust. Joe and his handlers don’t care about victims. They’re very odd awful people. They’re gross. So Joe or his handlers just decided they were going to hurt victims' families and this was how they decided to do it?
Your blood lust is palpable. I'm yet to be convinced that executions actually provide any kind of real comfort or "closure" (what nonsense) or sense of justice to families. It might sound good to them, and it obviously does to you, but righteous killing is killing nonetheless.
Sure, if gen pop poses a known risk to an inmate.Allowing someone to live in less restrictive conditions would be cruel and unusual?
I decided I was against it as a teenager. Just seemed uncivilized.I've come a long, torrid path to get here. But I don't personally believe in the death penalty. One of Biden's best decisions.
Here’s the problem. Federal law permits it and the imposition of the death penalty is a very heavy duty process. Biden or any president does not have the authority to overrule law.I've come a long, torrid path to get here. But I don't personally believe in the death penalty. One of Biden's best decisions.

I’ve never disliked a group of politicians more than Biden and his crew. I genuinely cannot stand any of em. That said this is complicated. He campaigned on abolition of it. And for much of the last 50 years it’s been effectively stayed. I’m not a fan of this intervention as it supplants the province of the jury who actually heard the case. A power the presiding judge doesn’t even have if I remember right. But If Biden was going to do it he should have for all. Parsing it looks sus. Here’s the problem. A commutation of sentence is supposed to be based on the individual circumstances of a particular offender. To do a categorical commutation as Biden did is nothing more than him personally tossing federal law and the judicial process in the dumpster. And as goat mentioned, the three exceptions pose unique and unprecedented problems in my view.
The three exceptions show that for Biden, the commutations were political. Not based on a general belief that the DP is wrong.I’ve never disliked a group of politicians more than Biden and his crew. incidentally they typically occur in terre haute. Iu has a legal assistance project that works with the prison
Why and how? Not saying you're wrong, but I demand the math on this. The three exceptions show that for Biden, the commutations were political. Not based on a general belief that the DP is wrong.
So fvck democracy and the legal process then because of your personal beliefs?I've come a long, torrid path to get here. But I don't personally believe in the death penalty. One of Biden's best decisions.
Clemency is part of the legal process. The Founders even put it in some kind of document. So fvck democracy and the legal process then because of your personal beliefs?
For individual instances where justice might not have been served. Or where the President believes the person deserves forgiveness because he has expressed remorse, etc. It shouldn't be used as a veto over the legislative and judicial processes because you don't like the law. Talk about authoritarian.Clemency is part of the legal process. The Founders even put it in some kind of document.

And twenty isn't arguing these guys deserve forgiveness. He doesn't "believe" in capital punishment so has determined that this is one of Biden's "best" decisions. Ends over means. Screw the fact that the legislative process has made capital punishment the law of the land and that these two were found guilty after lengthy legal proceedings.
Res ipsa loquiturWhy and how? Not saying you're wrong, but I demand the math on this.

Yeah. Overrated. One or two decent songs. The rest were forgettable. You hate Hamilton?
Right. Clemency is governmental mercy shown to an individual. It’s not a categorical show of mercy, that is disregarding the law.Clemency is part of the legal process. The Founders even put it in some kind of document.
Yes. And he abused it.Legal process? Does not Biden have the legal authority?
He does have the legal authority. Doesn't mean it's good. Difference between can and should.Legal process? Does not Biden have the legal authority?

The legal process I'm talking about is the trial, that included a detailed look at the crime, remorse, etc., the sentencing, etc. by the judge and jury and any appeals thereafter that were reviewed by federal appellate judges. If you think Joe Biden sifted through all that, spent the same amount of time contemplating it, and came up with an independent judgment on the justice of the verdicts in these cases, I've got some DOGE coin to sell you.
ETA: I'll be saying the same thing if Trump pardons all the J6 people, by the way.
@twenty02 don’t do it. No, shitcoins. Only, Bitcoin. If you think Joe Biden sifted through all that, spent the same amount of time contemplating it, and came up with an independent judgment on the justice of the verdicts in these cases, I've got some DOGE coin to sell you.
Executions are entirety a judicial function. Entirely!Trump had a bizarre fascination with executions. No Federal executions since 2003 then Trump executed 13 people in his last 6 months in office.

The only function a president has is to pardon, commute or stay the sentence. No president has authority to order an execution. Trump allowing the judicial process to play out is how government should work.
Yes, he usually wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, including all the losers and lowlifes. Some of the families have come out voicing their disgust. Joe and his handlers don’t care about victims. They’re very odd awful people. They’re gross.
Fortunately trump kicked em to the curb and has begun the healing process. I suspect we’ll get a nice heartfelt Xmas post from him tomorrow

The 0 for 17 is the abnormal part.So there were 0 for 17 years and then there were 13 in 6 months at the very end of his term. And that's just the normal judicial process?
