ESPN is reporting on the process in Texas. It’s probably not good for him that his accuser didn’t immediately express regret for calling the cops, as often happens.

Goes to show how wrong you can be. He was the guy (well after THE Guy) I thought would be my dream coach at IU, and I thought it was a mistake to hire someone with no college coaching experience. Now, a year and a half in, I couldn't have been more wrong, imo, and I love what Coach Woodson is doing here.

I saw a report that his attorney said the accuser was saying it didn’t happen as they’re saying.

He freakin bit her on her arm! The police found bite marks! Glad we got Woodson than this beast!

The rush to judgment is usually but not always correct. Let the process play out. Even if proven to be an abusing scumbag, he’s a great coach and someone will hire him again someday. Rick Pitino says hi
Not in todays world. He’s done if this is true.

There is physical evidence of the assault that was alleged. Her ability to “take it back” is complicated by that.

Remember that, in a criminal matter, the plaintiff is the state. Victims can certainly lobby to have charges dropped. But it’s the prosecutor’s call. And the existence of physical evidence of an assault will be a factor.

can't see them pursuing if she's not going to press charges and testify. I have a feeling she's going to have a couple million reasons why she's going to not do that.

On the other thread, someone posted the actual police report and on it, it said there was no alcohol involved (I’ve never seen a bottle of alcohol bite someone, but evidently Lucy has) they guy was twirling his glasses while they were talking, like someone does and their not really listening, and she grabbed them out of his hand and broke them. Don’t see how a grown man can see that as agression and choke and bite someone

Maybe. I wouldn’t say it’s a slam dunk. I’m just saying that the existence of clear physical evidence consistent with the assault described to police will be a factor.

People often think it’s the victim’s decision. And it isn’t.

I agree that the American public is pretty forgiving over time, but Pitino's stuff was before Twitter and Me Too I believe, or at least before twitter was prevalent. Different environment today, imo.

I agree. I said the same thing in the earlier thread but didn't say it as well as you did. The bottom line is we don't know the whole story. It will get fleshed out.

Oh, yeah? Those bite marks may have been a result of her getting bit by a poisonous snake...while Beard heroically extracted the venom with his mouth. So there, naysayers.

The Beards need to sober up
Probably, the most accurate statement made by any poster. There are actually two parts: The criminal charges and the PO (which is civil). I tried several protective order cases in Texas. The PO cases are usually tried before a thorough investigation is done. My most memorable case was one in which the woman accused my client of being extremely violent and abusive. At the same time, she was sending him various pictures of her "most intimate body parts" with the caption, "miss you, can't wait to see you again." The judge returned the photos to me after the trial. She didn't want them in her files. And yes, she denied the PO.

I noticed that the police did not mention marks on Beard. Most likely it's because he had left the scene before they arrived (according to a news article). That also means the police only heard one side of the story. I suspect Beard's attorney has pictures of Beard's injuries, if any. No telling what actually happened. Especially, if the parties were intoxicated.

It should noted that Warren Moon was tried on a domestic violence charge in Fort Bend County, Texas, even though his wife did not want to pursue the case. The Fort Bend County treated family violence as a crime against the state. To no one's surprise, Moon was not convicted.

Never been to that depth, but I did have a psycho suddenly move in with me a few years ago. The next day her mail showed up (big red flag). After a couple months of crazy, she refused to leave. Police and judge told me I'd need to evict her since her getting mail meant she was a "resident." Luckily she never hurt herself as many of my friends warned me about and finally left somewhat peacefully.

The rush to judgment has ruined many lives in certain cases. Duke lacrosse. The rape hoax. Not saying Beard did not do it but guilty until proven innocent is not how I like to look at things.

Really? Must have put on a totally different face before you got married.

That is true and if he gets caught trying to buy her off, he'll be in bigger trouble. As it stands, a good lawyer might be able to keep him out of prison, but not if he does more
