Have y’all seen Beard’s Q1 record? And Q1A record? I’ve seen it on twitter and it’s pretty bad but I don’t know how to compare it to other’s Q1 records for context.

He’s <3mins away from it getting 1 game worse.

Final Four at TT and had Texas humming until the allegation. He is a great coach.
They weren’t humming.
They underperformed versus their talent level his first year at UT. He deserves credit for getting the talent in his first offseason. But they didn’t do anything.

He is a very good coach though.

I think he was referring to year two where Beard and UT beat Gonzaga (2), Creighton (7) before losing in OT to Illinois (17) to start 7-1. Then Beard was fired. UT finished 29-9 that year getting bounced by Miami in the Elite 8.

And one of the narratives that was constantly discussed later in that year was how Terrry might have gotten more out of the players than Beard did.

I suspect Beard was headed for a very good year that year. But underachieving, then getting off to a good start, then getting fired…isn’t humming.

Did you know Beard has a better winning percentage than Dan Hurley?

Knight used to say that the most difficult thing to do was to convince a recruit to go to Lubbuck, Texas. Beard took them to another level after Knight layed the ground work there.

Then Beard went to Texas and had a heck of a team in his 2nd season but that got cut short. Then he started over at Ole Miss where, once again, it is difficult to recruit.

So if you look at it, he hasn't had the formula that would give him sustained success. He would get that at IU.

If we have really missed out on may and stevens beard I probably next on the list or close. I mean who else is there? Bronwell? Cronin?

I’m simply trying to compare records vs Q1 opponents. Comparing overall records is easy. But how do they do in their biggest games? That’s the comparison I’m trying to make.

For example, in the past week or so, Mississippi has lost to two teams that they are ‘better than’. By all accounts, more talented, better resources, better coach (?), yet they’ve lost both of those games. One at home and one on the road where they fell behind by almost 20 before clawing back to almost win. Both Q1 games.

I’ve seen 25 years of losing a lot of games where IU is/should be the better team. So where’s the evidence that Beard or whoever we hire isn’t a continuation of that trend?

My answer is that I’m not sure such a coach is attainable based on current evidence.
