Well if Bates got a 2 way, he'll play for the NBA team unless he gets cut before training camp. I'd imagine Romeo makes more than a 2-way deal in France but have no idea. Exum is a better ball handler than romeo but found his 3 point shot playing in Europe and could be a useful rotation player consistently if he quit hitting hurt. Same with Romeo. If he finds a 3 point in Euro ball, he'll be back in NBA.

No. Bad 3 point shooters have become respectable 3 point shooters. I'm not saying Langford is as good a player as Derrick Rose but they were similar 3 point shooters. Rose shot about same 3 point .pct early in career but was outstanding in all other aspects of his offense. The last 5 years of Rose's career, he became a 3 point weapon. Exum is fairly comparable as a 3 point shooter and he went to Europe for 2 years and has shot in the 40% + range since coming back to Mavs.
It seems 99% of the people don't understand that NBA team play 2 way contract guys. With all the load management 2 way guys provide depth and do not count against NBA salary cap. If Ryan Nembhard was the same size as his bro on the Pacers, he would have been a 1st round pick. Mavs need PG's and I'm glad to see they signed him to a 2 way deal.
All this hype for a player who MAY get one minute of playing time? Time out, that is not and was not ever the bar. These goal posts have been moved so far, they're out of the country at this point.

Bates playing A minute in the NBA is now a victory lap while the dude, an Indiana high school legend, picked 14 in the first round of the draft with like a 5 yr NBA career is an actual comparison.

Pros: Denver just fired coach for not playing younger guys more - kind of dumb firing.
Cons: Bates likely isn’t better than anyone on Denver’s bench. Is he better than Strawther or Pickett?
Another Pro/Con: Denver might try to dump Michael Porter Jr cuz he’s a role player with a near max contract. Also dumb contract by GM. This either could help or hurt Bates.
I’m a fan of Bates but he’s nothing more than a 3 pt shooter who probably has below average defense, which is fine in the pros where trying to play D is good defense. Maybe he will get traded to Utah, Portland, or Charlotte where they just exist as a team.
AI told me Last year of the 59 players to sign two way contracts they averaged playing in 20-25 games. If bates does that I should take a victory lap year. You realize almost everyone on hear that voiced an opinion said he would not make the nba. If he plays in 25 games this year he will have proved everyone wrong.
You’re creating a specific false narrative here to prove you’re right. To your own point, the crux of this whole argument…Romeo v Tamar… likely won’t be proven one way or another any time soon. Unless Tamar breaks out and becomes a main rotation guy this year, it’s still gonna have to be a multi year comparison. Because Romeo did play in the NBA for multiple years.
And then there is the fact that Romeo himself is still pretty young. If, somehow, he does find the drive and a good shooting coach over the next year to give him a more reliable shot, he will be back in the league. Because literally every facet of the game besides outside shooting, he’s better than Tamar. Shooting is pretty damn important though. And so is having a motor. Those things are why Tamar could prove you right in the end. Hope he does! Romeo had his chance. And if he blew it, it was because of effort. I’d love the Bates story if he fights and sticks.
Bates has 646 points to score in the nba before i am right on the one thing everyone tried to call me out on. I could care less if he didn’t get drafted. Playing in the nba and better than Ol Rome was always my narrative.
