So this is very simple math. Coach Knight was paid 170,000 in his final full season at IU which won 20 games. That means he was paid 8500 bucks a victory. With inflation CBK made about 253,000 dollars a year today or 12,500 bucks per victory. Currently IU is paying Archie Miller 3.2 million per year or 246,000 bucks per victory so far. CAM made almost the same for one victory than CBK did for the entire season. Does this sound crazy to anyone else? For the record I made 800 bucks last season coaching 5th grade and went 10-1 so I am the best value right? JK.

I believe CBK got paid at least 3 times that from endorsements directly. Examples brand of shoes and jerseys worn by players rather than IU paying him and keeping a portion.

He also raised a ton of money for the library. RMK never demanded to be paid what he could have fetched. Personally, I felt that approach was refreshing and fair.

However, one thing that is not really fair is assessing Miller's salary per win currently. An athletics director sets marks for successfully handling the job BEFORE the coach signs on, and also determines at what point those measures are collected. Archie likely hasn't reached that time frame yet. It isn't as if he hasn't had some kind of conversation as to his performance to date. Not winning enough games in year 2 is probably not the biggest metric on his contract.

Thanks for your replies. I was just enjoying some stats, although useless. The main point is just how crazy salaries have gotten for a game. I love everything about basketball except for this arms race the NCAA has become.

We’re getting ripped off. I think half the HS coaches in the state could produce equal or better results.

Need more Indiana HS shooters. Chasing out of state top end athletes instead of basketball players got IU to this point. Butler and Purdue are recruiting basketball players first and great athletes 2nd, and it is working. Recruit shooters and post players.

yeah it's working. How many final fours have they been to and how many championships have they won. It sounds good on paper and in the regular season. I think you need great athletes that have shooting skills atleast mid-range.

Butler made 2 Final Fours since IU.
Skilled Basketball players that are elite athletes too is much more desirable than elite athletes that happen to play basketball with low skill level. Give me the pure basketball player every day over the elite athlete with no skill. Bohannon just beat IU for example. You still have to put the ball in the hole. Shooters need to become a premium when recruiting.

Stevens deserves anything to get him to come home I hope Irving leaves to NY and Brad could be swayed to come home to Indiana he makes 4mil with Boston I say 9-10mil a year to come to Indiana would do it...
