Not quite OT since IU plays them four of the next five seasons...

BSU hired their former QB Mike Neu as new head coach. Neu was most recently the QB coach for the New Orleans Saints. His only college coaching experience came with a short stint as QB coach at Tulane. He cut his coaching teeth in the arena league with about 10 years of experience as a head coach and coordinator.

Neu quarterbacked BSU's 1993 conference championship team that went to the Las Vegas Bowl. He was the MAC's offensive player of the year that season. He followed that with a year playing in the Arena League. He played HS ball at Perry Meridian in Indy.

My initial thought is this feels like a bit of a reach hire (or the result of not having a good candidate pool to choose from). BSU was one of the last FBS schools to fill a coaching vacancy this year. He comes in with what looks like minimal college coaching and recruiting experience. On the plus side, he's an alumnus and central IN native who likely still has ties to area schools and programs. He can also point to experience as an NFL coach (for Drew Brees, nonetheless) as a recruiting tool and presumably could piece together a strong offense based on his background.

As a Muncie native who has caught all kind of hell due to IU's recent struggles against BSU, I really hope we beat them down hard in every game this series.
