B1G on Full Display Today

Kentucky has produced zero NCAA tourney wins in the same span that they recruited 12, yes, 12, top 50 recruits. Now that is what pathetic looks like.

Big 12 with three teams in the Sweet 16 (Kansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State). They also had Baylor and TCU just miss with OVERTIME losses.

TCU got royally screwed, how that wasnt a foul at the end of regulation and only camera evidence kept them from losing in regulation on that dunk. That was a screw job on that ons.

The poor performance of the BIG teams is an issue. Got to give Wisconsin a pass because Hepburn was a key player, but the rest of the BIG struggled in the NCAA. Why? One of the speculative theories being kicked around is that BIG refs allow the league to play "Bully Ball" through the regular season. Then when we get to the NCAA, the refs call a tighter game which throws off the BIG teams more than those that play in a more open game. The other theory is that we just beat each other up with as much parity as there is in this conference, so that by the time we get to the tourney, all the players are tired and half heartedly playing.

You don't suppose the FBI investigation into corrupt recruiting practices could be affecting this do you? Surely not...

I think its more so that his formula doesn't work as well anymore. Veterans, especially at guard, are just so much more important than when he started at UK. And even then, the year he won the title coincided with Jones/Lamb returning for an extra year because of the NBA lockout

In Wisconsin’s defense if they hadn’t lost Chucky Hepburn in the first half due to injury I think they probably would have won.
Still very enjoyable to watch them lose in front of 97% Wisconsin fans. I know some Wisconsin fans and they are crazy. Big time in mourning today.

Unless you are Purdue who gets like 50 foul shots.

Yep not great but something we could only dream of. So if they would move to fire him who are they going to get that is any better though?

I'm not saying that they should fire him - he's still doing ok, and Calipari hasn't exactly run the program into the ground, just that he has dropped a few pegs from where he started, and that he is underachieving more than any team in the BT over the last 6 years

Can you imagine if we had a coach who went to 2 Elite 8s in 6 years? We might seriously name the court after him. There would certainly be a statue.

I just love how our fans consider IU making the tournament a success, but for Uk, Duke, etc it’s title or bust. And then these same delusional people consider us a blue blood still.

I believe that over the last 20 years, the BT has the 2nd best record of any conference, only slightly trailing the ACC.

Also, in that span the BT is tied for first in title game appearances and is 2nd in Final 4 appearances, trailing the ACC by 1 appearance.

The BT needs to change, but they have been doing fine in the tournament, it just can't get over the hump and win a title game

Yep, even just 1 title from some of the really freaking good teams that have been in the title game would change the narrative.

And I don't think the B1G was all that good this year. Purdue was probably the best team (still in it) and Michigan has the most talent (still in it).

Wisconsin played with fire too often with their close games, Illinois looked bad for the last month, Iowa never wins NCAAT games, MSU was ok lost to a better team, OSU was ok also lost to a better team. Rutgers and IU were bubble teams and went 1-2, about what you would expect out of teams that combined for nearly 30 losses.

No but I am guessing the Kentucky fans probably want him fired knowing them. So my question to the would be just who do they think they are going to get Brad Stevens? Christ Beard? Honestly Calipari is probably the best fit for them a slimy guy who gets a ton of five stars who probably do not even go to class. Perfect fit.

People always look for a reason to make themselves feel better I guess it is human nature. It is like blaming our 30 point blowout to St. Marys on anything except the fact we played a horrible game and basically quit in the second half. Making St. Marys out to be some sort of machine who two days later was easily handled by UCLA and that machine narrative looked to be false. Everyone would love that Kentucky success whether they admit it or not.

Yep, worst the BT can do this year is 9-9 record and last year was 8-9, but went 13-8 2 tournaments ago. Also, you have to back to 2006 for the last time the BT completely biffed a tournament (3-6) like the SEC is doing this year and the ACC did last year

Except the Big 12 teams are far more physical.

Yup I’ve only heard for 12 years how we don’t want to recruit like Calipari. Like it’s a choice. These people are bonkers.

....and outbidding others for the services of Anthony Davis helped big time.
