B1G on Full Display Today

In year 5, Holtmann still hasn’t made a sweet 16. Even Crean had been twice by year 5 🤪

and that includes a first round loss as a 2 seed and 2 other double digit second round losses

CBH.... I just caught part of the ILL game today and had the volume muted most of the time. (I hate these announcers they put on.... to much drama) In late 2nd half of the game.... Corbello was on the bench till the end.

Was he injured??? Fouls?????? Do you know?

Just curious. Anyone else know why?????
I missed good part the middle section of the game. But yeah he was never out there. He’s in the box score, but it’s pretty ugly, 0-4 from the field, two turnovers.

It would be typical B1G to have 5 teams featured in 8 games on the same day and lose all of them. And after 9 teams get invited we limp into S16 with 2 teams. I'll either eat crow on this post or not.

I predict:

Illinios: Loss
Sparty: Loss
OSU: Loss
Wiscy: Win
Purdue: Loss

B1G tournament Record after first two rounds: 9-7
0-3 as I type this but it’s not as if these have been massive upsets. 4/5 and two 7/2 games.

The Coach K farewell tour is in full force with the refs. Also, does Duke even have an offense anymore or does K just recruit guys that are good off the bounce, a big and a three pint shooter to stand in the corner.

Also, IU should like to find guards who can score. Period. The big doesn’t even matter anymore.

Back the refereeing. So inconsistent.

Wiscy down 5 with 41 left and Iowa St at the line. B1G about to be 0-4 today with only PU left to play. This conference is a joke and so overhyped.

They arent going to score 50 points! most Big 10 teams are struggling to get to 55. Partly big then ball and partly shot clock. Yeah you have to shoot but is it a shot?

Sparty has looked the best and of course they lost. Michigan will get bounced in the next round. I am so happy to see Wiscy get beat. Screw those punks.

The Big Ten should be limited to 5 bids from now on.
That may be too many. But no more than that. A lot of issues with our league and need to focus on items that are fixable. One is the officiating and "rugby" style of ball that is played. It hurts recruiting and that contributes to the lack of post season success. But the league truly is grossly over rated. And it shows every year in Mid March.

Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois all shit the bed. Terrible.

Wisconsin loses basically a home to a team whose two best scorers. are ex-PSU 'star' Brockington, and a guy who was Minnesota's #5.

Illinois plays 2 crap games.

Iowa loses to Richmond, who loses their next game by 30.

None of the 3 1st team AAs looked the part.

I used to be a Big Ten fan, but I'm tired of these turds. We carried the conference for 20 years when Bobby was in his prime, and no one except Izzo has stepped up to be a national force since.

Iowa st coach did a hell of a job in year one. They won just 2 games last year. Basically rebuilt the roster and now has them in sweet 16

It’s just time people quit blindly believing it’s the best conference. Or even in the top 4 for that matter. You can be an Iowa St or Oklahoma football fan without blindly believing the Big 12 is the best football conference. It doesn’t make you a better fan having your head in the sand.

You’re an idiot. You do know that every team that’s playing today was one of the last 32 playing, right?
Big Ten got 9 bids and likely only 1 will be left after the first weekend. That’s pathetic. Give the other conferences more bids.

I believe that over the last 20 years, the BT has the 2nd best record of any conference, only slightly trailing the ACC.

Also, in that span the BT is tied for first in title game appearances and is 2nd in Final 4 appearances, trailing the ACC by 1 appearance.

The BT needs to change, but they have been doing fine in the tournament, it just can't get over the hump and win a title game

One more thing. Yesterday the 8 winners were from 8 different conferences. Today, so far, you’ve had two from the Big 12 (which appears to be the best conference by far), one more each for the ACC (so far) and Big East. SEC still looking for their second (and Auburn looks in trouble).

So right now the Big 12 could end up with a max of five but more likely 3 (Kansas, Iowa St, Texas Texh), pac 12 will max at 2 (UCLA, likely Arizona), Big East at 2 (Providence, Villanova), SEC is garbage with just Arkansas in and Auburn likely to get bounced. ACC looks good with UNC and Duke, as well as the showing by ND and Miami is looking like they’ll win. The big10 might end with two. Does that make the other conferences just as trash as the big10?

If anything all this shows is that the Power 5 designation has a much diminished meaning when you compare basketball to football. Parity is the new rule. Small schools with little to no football revenue have figured out how to build strong basketball programs. Houston, Gonzaga, Villanova to name a few (yes I know Houston plays football).
