Australia

A more racially and culturally homogeneous country than Switzerland I hard to find. The “diversity is our strength” crowd must think that Switzerland is an awful place.

I don’t think the problem here is our racial and cultural differences as much as it is how the Democrats use those differences for political gain. They are making it worse with all the DEI and pronoun BS.
It's insidious. If they had any self-awareness, they'd be ashamed.

Just stop it. The elephant in the room about shootings and killings is black youngsters shooting black youngsters because of the way they talk or something. If all we had were “white militia wannabes“ and ”rural nut jobs” our statistics would look pretty good on a world basis.

Your comment about NW Indiana is only partially correct. The problem that helped prompt the awful immunity statute was in a few gun shops in the western suburbs,
Don't lose focus here.

The elephant is that over 311,000 high school kids have delt with gun violence at schools since Columbine, and it's getting worse.

The overwhelming majority are from kids getting ahold of their parents guns.

If we have to narrow the focus here than fine, but I don't see a lot of gang bangers shooting up schools which is why the 'look at Chicago!' is irrelevant here.

"You know tough registration laws like they have in Switzerland (which is a comparable country in regards to gun ownership per population)."

Congratulations, Tommy. You've inadvertantly made my point that this is a societal problem.

Everyone in Switzerland is required to fulfill a military requirement. And guess what - they keep their weapons - rifles - in their homes!

I am good friends with a Swiss guy and he showed me the - better be sitting down for this - a fully AUTOMATIC weapon he kept under his bed! And this is common in Switzerland.

So, the claims that it's guns causing the problem is BS. It's our society that is sick.

EDIT: I had heard that all Swiss citizens were required to have a firearm, but I don't know if that's true anymore. My friend did his military service and is part of a reserve unit, so that's why he has his weapon. But he keeps it at his house- with ammunition - instead of an armory.
No it was exactly the comparison I wanted to use.

The Swiss loves their guns almost as much as we do.

The have some of the most stringent gun laws on earth. From wait periods to training requirements to red flags for any blot on the record.

They also treat gun and ammo differently. They are sold separately and there are ammo laws.

Plus it's illegal to have a loaded gun that's not in use (so they are trained to always empty their gun when they are done. They aren't sitting around loaded because they are scared of intruders. That's illegal).

Again, anyone who wants a gun can get one in Switzerland but, there's a long process.

Switzerland is more diverse than you’d think. Depending on the region, they either speak French, German or Italian. And they all speak English too.

"What happened in Australia provides a concrete example of how a healthy democracy can confront powerful interests to introduce rational policies that clearly benefit the country. The Australian success story also reminds us what a dismal outlier the United States remains in terms of gun violence and political will even in the face of the most gruesome and abhorrent of all mass shootings: the killings of schoolchildren."

Seems like the perfect place for you to live vs the USA. I think you would fit in well!!! They like to lock down the population for years on end so you would love it.

They also have a lot of Middle Eastern immigrants. And the Swiss don't like it much.

I love this country at least as much as you do, but loving my country and recognizing that another country may do something better (e.g. enacting gun legislation that resulted in a dramatic decline in mass shootings) than we do are not mutually exclusive. (I know you don't know what that means, but that's ok).

And you keep ignoring that they have very stringent regulations.

As I said before, I could apply for a permit online from Florida, go to a gun shop in Wisconsin and go on a killing spree in about two to three hours.

That is impossible in Switzerland.

The training requirements alone make it impossible.

When did I ever argue against regulations?

What regulations are you talking about? In Switzerland you can't buy a weapon one place and travel to another to go on a killing spree? Sure you can. Do you think there are travel restrictions to keep you from it?

You think trained people can't go on a killing spree? Ever hear of the disturbed veteran that turned his on Chris Kyle?

You do realize that phrases like "trained people" "killing spree" and "disturbed veteran turning his (weapon) on Chris Kyle" don't exactly buttress whatever convoluted point you're attempting to make, right? You're actually (unintentionally) making the case for stricter gun laws and psychological testing of applicants. Not to mention standing the whole "good guy with a gun" theory on it's ear. The guy who killed Kyle was a "good guy with a gun" in every sense of the word, until he wasn't...

As to Switzerland... This video from Daily Show is illuminating, even though Kosta interjects humor into the equation. And it's 3 yrs old, so since this report was posted in Dec 2018, the US has had close to 100 school shootings. There were almost 30 in 2019 alone, and we're on a similar pace in 2022...

And despite what GOP politicians try and claim about "American society" being the problem, the Swiss have the same sort of societal issues as what Pub politicians try to claim are uniquely "American". For example, 5 of the Top 10 highest cities for cocaine use in Europe are in Switzerland...

If you want to counter my position, you should at least present a cogent argument.

Instead, you spend the first paragraph quibbling over non-controversial, factual, verbiage.

It's interesting that the only people I hear 'good guy with a gun' is from you and your fellow mental midgets.

Well I would hope it is 100% the parents who help the kids through these things and schools do not feel the need to inject themselves into the equation. I would just hope that schools would teach kids things like Mathematics and things they are intended to do.
But sometimes the parents don’t. Sometimes the parents kick them out. Sometimes the kids won’t even tell their parents. Who do you suggest they turn to then?
