Dakich said the new assistant should be named in the next couple of days. Any idea who? Delaney?

At least Archie hired a guy from a program that’s won more and had better post-season seedings the last few years...

Seems like Archie played it safe...following the old adage, ‘Never hire the guy who will replace you!’

Safe hire for Archie...probably could have been better for the Hoosier basketball program.

At least he was a Knight guy and he was on an IU team that won. Recruited by Knight, and then a grad assistant coach for.

Roberts would need to prove to be a much better coach than he was a player. But that is not an uncommon theme.

dumb, dumb, and we'll see...

like any of us can truly measure the impact a new assistant will or will not make. lol.

"The Boss" was my favorite player when he played. I couldn't take my eyes off him when he was in the game.

2+ months and Iu goes from schilling to mike Roberts? My god things are way way worse than I thought. He has NO big time recruiting success. He’s not coming from a big time program. He wasn’t a great player. I mean we are plucking from UNCG? How the hell is he going to help? I love that he loves Iu. That’s a huge bonus but other than that I see no upside here.

Miller has been recruiting Cross, it has been reported. He may need more help with execution and general assistant coaching duties than with recruiting.

You’re not joking. Is IU really that unattractive of a destination? Has the luster of IU worn off that much? Apparently so. That is a total indictment of a lot of people.

How? Why? Where do you get that? You have absolutely zero clue who IU offered and who they coveted. I bet you couldn’t name 5 assistant coaches if you tried. IU has their associate head coach and lead recruiter and so far he’s done more than a fine job. Thinking IU was going to pluck some high profile assistant coach like Dan Fife or Jon Scheyer at a king’s ransom to come sit at the end of IU’s bench?

I’m not going to comment on Mike Roberts one way or the other because just like 99.9% of the rest of the posters on here, nobody has a SINGLE FREAKING CLUE what Mike Roberts capabilities are as a coach? You think Brad Stevens was a sexy hire when Butler plucked him out of Eli Lily? Ed Schilling seemed to be a pretty sexy hire 2 years ago and accomplished nothing.

You clearly don’t know how any of this works but man I love reading your efforts!

What is Mike Roberts ranked by the national assistant coach gooroos?

Is he a one and done?

I mean seriously.

Look at someone like Luke Yacklich. Nobody and their mom had ever heard of Luke Yacklich until Beilein plucked him from Illinois State. And I mean nobody. Guy was a student trainer in college and a high school coach who got hired when his childhood friend was given the Illinois State job. He orchestrated Michigan’s defensive scheme and is now an associate head coach at Texas after being a nobody at Illinois State just 3 years prior.

Nope. 4 star. He has an excellent reputation with X’s and O’s, with a great personality and ability to relate to 18-22 year olds. I’m just messing with you, but I have heard that opinion of him.

How in the hell do you and Tommy Cracker deal with this board? You’re two of the smartest and best posters on this whole site, but I can barely even lurk on this side because it’s a cess pool of incivility and basketball ignorance. Other than you two, Pete, and a handful of others, it’s unbearable. However, the premie is dead and this side actually has some life to it, even if it’s full of ignorance and trolls.

I know, nobody knows dick about an incoming assistant coach that it's funny to me the backlash already.

I mean the dude is from Indiana, played at Indiana and then started his career under Knight...figure that alone would give some on here a boner.

Reading his bio, he's had success and the dude is what a three time academic all American (so he ain't no dummy). Add in all the Indiana ties and..maybe he's not so bad? I honestly don't know.

Neither does anyone else.

IU could have hired a re-incarnated Red Auerbach and somebody would find a way to complain.
