Are Trump's beautiful tariffs

It seems that tariffs against imported cars will affect not only many of the most affordable cars but 14 of the 20 "most American" cars available. How does that make sense?

60% of fruits and 40% of veggies are imported. Those will cost more as food is included

A lot of cheaper products are imported, such as clothing. Are we going to allow people to walk around naked?

Auto parts are going to go up, that will impact everyone with an auto.

People who live paycheck to paycheck will be paying more in taxes as a percentage of income.
The price of every new car assembled in America will increase. Every one contains foreign made parts.

I have been trying to decide if I want to go to the spring game. The last couple I attended were, well, boring.
I'm pissed they moved it. I said it was 50/50 for me, depending on the weather. But what the hell - I'm coming up to spend Easter with my mom and sisters, so might as well go to Bloomington.

I'm a football geek - an IU football geek - so I like to check out individual players and see how they play and who plays. I don't give a rip about the actual game. It's just a glorified practice anyway.

Mallory used to have free food at those - always a good thing.

BTW, to demonstrate this, VW is going to charge an "Import Fee" to consumers on tariff-impacted cars. And my guess is that they won't have any cars that won't be tariff-impacted -- as even their products that are assembled domestically will have all sorts of imported parts, raw materials, etc.

This is no different than restaurants in CA that I've personally eaten at that put a surcharge on their bills for various mandated employee costs. Rather than bury these into their menu prices, they're letting their customers know why their dinner bills have gone up. California even balked at this, if I'm not mistaken. But why? It's an actual cost -- and restaurants have no choice but to pass it along to their customers. It's either that or kill their business.

The one huge difference is that these taxes applied to every restaurant in California equally -- so they don't result in a situation where some get hit by it and others don't.
Gee, maybe some of the car dealers will have to cut their 'Dealers Fee' of $700+ they've charged on the last 2 cars I've bought.

I think many of you think a 25% tariff is going to mean prices to up 25% and I don't think that's going to be the case.

Maybe, maybe not on the percentage of income. Also, inflation will be lower and wages should rise faster for lower income workers as some jobs return to the U.S., and there aren’t millions of low income workers crossing the border to compete against. It's a brave new world.

You capitalize on emerging demand by incentivizing innovation that would capture the emerging market. If you sacrifice pennies in taxes collected up front for piles of green cash coming in later, you're a winner.

already working? A lot would say the most beautiful tariffs ever. 😁

I would tamper down doom and gloom until the hard data is actually bad. There's a lot of media fud right now and when the 3rd place finisher at Moose's Tuesday bingo night is telling you to sell all your stocks because the world is ending, you might want to fade the advice.

Was devaluing the dollar in your tariff playbook?

I want them to revalue gold and dump it on BRICS (Also get the added benefits of pissing of Mas, Peter Schiff, and the annoying gold bugs). Take the proceeds and buy 4 million Bitcoin and have the world pump our bags as we move to a neutral reserve asset system. As for Trump and Bessent, yes, I think they want the dollar to devalue some.

She's an idiot too, like Trump. Pelosi is your defense? Your grand leader will make you sink to any level.
Bernie, Pelosi, Warren, etc were all pro tariff until Trump implemented them of course. And say what you want about Trump but he's been very consistent and doesn't flip flop. Dems have no core principles whatsoever. Just whichever way they think the wind is blowing.

Trumps proposals to eliminate tax on tips, overtime and social security will almost exclusively benefit the working poor and middle incomes.
Taxes on Social Security go to Social Security. Social Security tax is paid on tips. Remove those, what happens to Social Security? How will that benefit poorer Social Security recipients?

I mean what % of tips are ever reported anyway? When I worked in a restaurant in college there was some bare minimum that we had to report. Like $5/hr or something. But we were making more like $25 (and way up on busy nights). Of course a lot if it was cash back then. Probably not so much today.

You guys are working way too hard to smear Trump. The great bulk of working poor income is spent on food and shelter. Tariffs have little to do with that. Trumps proposals to eliminate tax on tips, overtime and social security will almost exclusively benefit the working poor and middle incomes.

A good quote CO. I thought tariffs would be smaller and end up being more of a wink wink to the working class voters. To Trump's credit, he said f#ck it and went for it. Now, he does need to walk them back some or deliver on major tax break, because they are going to slow growth and eventually cause a recession if he doesn't. And Democrats will take back congress, cut them, and enjoy the growth that comes from it.

And I'm gonna guess these tariffs are pretty popular in places like MI and PA. Dems might want to keep that in mind. Come 2032 it will be very difficult for any Dem to win the WH even if they hold the Rust Belt.

When they update the Electoral College in 2030 it will favor the GOP. If my memory is correct they're predicting a +9 swing in traditional GOP states.
Correct. You won't need WI, MI, or PA anymore. Shouldn't need them now but they completely botched the 2020 census. Funny how these errors always go one direction.
