Are any decent or good bigs

Yeah, I think his personality wore on everyone, including recruits, HS and AAU coaches. I'm not sure his eye for talent waned, as much as his ability to close the guys he really wanted, and then his crazy brain took over and maybe believed beyond reality that he could somehow craft them into B10 level players. Vonleh and Bryant were later, I just think when he didn't lock up the guys he wanted, he didn't have great fallbacks because he wasn't well-liked within the state and had to reach for guys like Priller and Gelon.
He recruited "fairly" well until the end. That 17 team had Bryant, OG, Juwan Morgan, Robert Johnson, James Blackmon, Curtis Jones on it. OG's injury was obviously massive...but even before that, they were underperforming relative to the talent they had...they lost to IPFW and Butler...and lost a few early B10 games they shouldn't have.

I don't remember who all he had recruited for the following year? The incoming guys were Justin Smith, Al Durham, Colin Hartman, Freddie McSwain, Clifton Moore, Zach McRoberts I believe... Not sure if all those guys were his guys, or Archies...and/or if he had any higher rated guys that decommitted?

But recruiting wise, outside the Zeller teams, Crean never really had a full, complementary, deep roster of good B10 level players. He seemed to have a couple studs, and then a bunch of iffy guys. To your point, I think he felt like he could "Dwayne Wade" anyone. And for every Wade/Olidipo/OG...there were 2 Al Durham and Clifton Moores.

Most certainly could be.
I've always viewed attaining goals as a simple task for relatively simple people handle. Viewed him as complicated/complex.
But kk as I remember he got his players into Cook for many extra hours work on their own. That is leadership and motivation of a fashion. Seems lacking the last 2 $ takers. Other wise FT and 3's % would have inched up every season. Damn disappointing. I think DeVries is more demanding and the NIL, Rev. share and portal makes it much simpler task.

As I recall he offered Gelon really early and for no apparent reason. He wasn't being courted by other programs, and it wasn't any kind of desperation late reach to fill a roster spot. It was just a weird impulsive decision.

CTC drove me nuts. I wanted to like the guy but it was hard to. As North said, consistency was the big issue. Looked like we were "back" with the Oladipo and Zeller crew, then took a big dip. I also think that, even tho the program was decimated when he took over, that he didn't get it going very quickly. It was almost as if he wasn't going to try until he got a full recruiting class or two under his belt. Contrast that with Rick Pitino's results his first three years at UK with a comparably similar situation. What really did it for me, with CTC, was the interview at halftime of the U of L game at home. We were down 50-40 IIRC. We had just given up 50 friggin' points (Montrezl Harrell???) and he had the gall to tell that reporter that his game plan was working. I knew that there would be no halftime adjustments, and we got beat by roughly 20 points.

Rumor has it that his son, Ivan Renko Jr has sprouted to 6'11" and 240 lbs...we should take a run at him

Seems like nearly every year there are late surprises. There will be some more movement, I'm sure, with decommits. I'd be surprised if we don't add another player besides either Goode or Leal. If I were putting money on it, I'd bet on one more impactful kid and Goode...and that'll be our 13.
I think we’ve moved on to ‘26 recruiting.

I would be fine with it if they had eligibility. I am not in favor of legitimizing open-ended extra years for college graduates.
If the administration makes the case that they lost significant time because of injury then they will get that year back. They have opened the floodgates…gonna be hard to approve some and not all.

Do I think it’s stupid…yes. But the whole thing has been turned on its head.

5 years to play 4. If you’re injured for two seasons that’s a shame but just bad luck you shouldn’t get endless extra years.

I agree but my opinion doesn’t matter in the end. The IU staff is expecting both Goode and Leal to be here next year
