IU has eight committed scholarship players. The Hoosiers are currently guard-heavy with four true guards, one wing (Jasai Miles) and a trio of forwards (DeVries, Bailey and Sisley). In the past week, players like Elyjah Freeman (Auburn), Kevin Overton (Auburn) and Liutauras Lelevicius are off the board and the transfer portal is now officially closed (names that entered but have not been released by schools could still emerge in the next day or so). What do we know about potential options to fill the remainder of the roster?

  • Luke Goode – waiting on the ruling from the NCAA for his waiver. It is expected to be denied and it is expected that Goode will hire an attorney and appeal. My expectation is that IU fills 12 scholarships and leaves one open for Goode.
  • Federiko Federiko – Texas Tech transfer – one year remaining – 6’11” center that would fit the bill as a mobile rim-protector and rebounder. IU has reached out and is a contender for him.
  • Leo Curtis – Arizona State decommit – four years remaining – 7’0” forward/center originally from Iceland. He had West Virginia and IU in his group of finalists before committing to ASU. Curtis is very skilled and could be a role player now and a really good player in a year or two. I think if IU pushes, they’ll have a great chance to get him.
  • Sam Alexis – Florida – one year remaining – 6’8” forward has received interest from Indiana.
  • Neoklis Avdalas – Greece – four years remaining – 6’8” point-forward. In a traditional sense, he’d be a “3” on defense and a “point forward” on offense. One international scout called Avdalas the best young talent in Greece and believed that if he came to IU, he’d be the best player on Indiana’s roster. Before you get your hopes up, Avdalas is getting interest from a lot of high-major teams plus he is a borderline first round NBA Draft prospect that might just enter the draft. Drew Adams has a connection that gets IU in the door and Indiana could meet his NIL demands but this will be a tall task.
  • Baba Miller – Florida Atlantic – one year remaining - 6’10” forward/center with tantalizing ability. He’s a really smooth and skilled player that would fit well next to Reed Bailey (although IU would still be missing bulk on the interior). Baba Miller is a late entry to the portal and he’s heard from IU along with a wide-range of other schools.
  • Stephon Payne III – Jacksonville – one year remaining – 6’8” forward – recent entry and IU has reached out
  • Adam Miller – Arizona State – one year remaining – 6’3” guard, really good shooter that was reportedly considering Indiana and Illinois (where he previously played) but nothing new has come out on his recruitment recently. I don’t think he is a need after recent additions.
  • Jaiden Glover – St. John’s – three years remaining – 6’5” wing, former top 75 recruit that didn’t really have an impact in year one of his collegiate career but IU reached out and he was known as a good shooter as a high school prospect
  • Kimani Hamilton – High Point – one year remaining – 6’8” forward – IU reached out a while ago but there has not been any visit scheduled.
  • Chad Baker-Mazara – Auburn – one year remaining – 6’7” wing – one of the best talents in the portal, CBM is considered a bit of a headache though and the NIL demand is very high. IU reached out but I do not believe they are pursuing him.
  • Alex Chaikin – Lafayette – three years remaining – 6’4” elite three-point shooter, the step up in athleticism and competition would be gigantic but Chaikin could be a very interesting bench option with multiple years remaining. IU reached out but he has not scheduled any known visits.
  • James Scott – Louisville – two years remaining – 6’11”/220 and just entered the portal at the deadline. He averaged 7.1 points and 6.1 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game this past season. He had a 2.36 Defensive BPR (4.71 total) and 6.7 Box Score Plus Minus (second-best on Louisville). Absolutely worth pursuing.
We shall see very shortly if any new names emerge as options. I do expect additional visits to occur this week. A finishing push of something like: Federiko Federiko, Leo Curtis, an athletic wing defender like Hamilton and a young guard or two (Glover and an incoming high schooler) would make a lot of sense and would give IU, on paper, a top 25 roster according to Bart Torvik's roster cast tool.

Thanks TJ... great info. Its gonna be interesting how he finishes off his first roster, obviously.

Per normal, I'm sure there will be some names that emerge soon that aren't on your/our radar yet. Lots of moving and shaking going on right now. Seems like IU is in as good a shape as anyone, with still having some NIL budget left. Gonna need it to nab any worthwhile bigs. They tend to be "overpriced".

A finish of Fredrico,Curtis,Baba Miller ,Chaikin with a frosh or Glover would be elite. The Auburn dude might not be good for team chemistry.

Man, it got late early in the portal for post players! Hoping CDD has an ace or 3 up his sleeve! FF and Curtis would be terrific in the frontcourt. I think I'd still want another 6'8"-9" guy with some bulk who could help with immediate frontcourt depth, maybe like the kid fro Jax. That would be a homerun, but short of that, I think we're very thin and exposed in the frontcourt. Hasn't FF had some injury issues?

If I'm holding an open roster spot it would be for Darrion williams. I guess he would be a long shot as reports are he is from out West. Seem BYU is killing it and likely the favorite for him unless KU swoops in. No harm in talking to his agent though.

For some reason I thought BYU was the college choice, if he doesn't stay in the NBA draft?

Thank you for sharing, trusting that the staff will get two or three bigs and probably another wing.

The Greek prospect sounds really interesting. The only concern is, how would he and Tucker fit together. They sound like very similar players.

Sorry we missed on Duke Brennan from Grand Canyon U.

DD had a freshman he redshirted his last year at Drake. Elijah Price he went to Fresno State and in his first year was really impressive. 6'9" 210 long. Combined blocks and steals=2.6 and a 3.2 offensive rpg. 10ppg 8rpg.

Tj, what do you know about Ian Schieffelin from Clemson
believe he's another guy who's out of eligibility and just entering in case he was granted another year.

But, if he's not, he's a really solid player, 6'8 and 230-240ish guy who plays hard, and can shoot it. Very much fits the CDD profile for a post guy, but like I said, I think he's played 4 years. Think Tom Pritchard with way more game.

He's why Clemson didn't miss Ben Middlebrooks, who was also a solid player also, more when we xferred to NC St.

With this merry-go-round called NIL, teams will be getting 4-6 portal guys every year it seems. I feel for the smaller schools that have their top guy or guys leave high and dry every year.

What about Perry Ellis? Does he have any eligibility left?
What about anyone who left school early in the last 5 years or so and didn't make it on a pro roster; or even if they did, but flamed out. How long before those guys are suing the NBA to regain their unused eligibility. Even if it started their college clock, they could argue lost opportunity wages because NIL didn't exist when they turned pro. Won't surprise me at all to see someone try and gain back their lost eligibility.

Heck, I'd contribute to the Romeo Langford NIL deal just to watch Cav blow a gasket.

No further information on Dorn or who will be on campus this weekend (I'm confident they'll have a big guy or two on campus and it's Little 500 weekend so I like IU's chances to close on whoever it is ha). Some had asked about former WVU commits and Trent MacLean committed to Saint Mary's to play for Randy Bennett. That's a really good spot for him. IU and head coach Darian DeVries did not choose to pursue him.

I love the Chef. He was adored at Clemson and entered the portal recently. He does not have any eligibility remaining and would only be granted another year if the NCAA drops the requirements that limit players to four full seasons. He has played four full seasons and was a ton of fun to watch. No one got more out of their ability than Ian.

just want to say thank you for all your updates and insight, it's the one normal constant in this crazy NIL portal world we now live in!!

Wasn't Federiko Federiko the name of the opera singer who sang the national anthem at the baseball game in Naked Gun?

TJ I saw where Iwachukwu from St Johns has entered the portal. Does IU have enough NIL for him? Or do you think the staff will even pursue him?

The traffic goes both ways. It's not a one way street. Low major overperformers move up, high major underperformers move down. Meritocracy ...
Kanan Carlyle will, or has, landed at a mid/low major, as a decent example... I'm sure that program will be glad to have him?!
