Purdue scored 29 points in the first 8 1/2 minutes of the game. I think Purdue was up 20 at that point. Michigan came out flat and the game was over already. Is it personnel?
Is it system?
Is it coaching?
Or all the above
Because Mays team is being curb stomped. From what I’m seeing from ESPN scoreboard..

Painter sucks when it counts, in March. That said I think they will beat us at SSAH and destroy us at the pig barn.
That's at least 7 more early round losses to mid majors ...Otherwise, they’ve got things rolling for the next 10-15 years.
probably very few..How many coaches have more NCAA wins that Painter in the last 6 seasons?
I suppose so.probably very few..
How many coaches have 5 losses in tourney play to double digit seeds?
One.
When Woodson is gone, they will suck. How ya like that? Many on here still think Painter sucks and when Haas is gone, I mean Williams is gone, I mean Ivey is gone, I mean Edwards is gone… errr when Edey is gone … errr when Smith is gone they will suck.
Purdue is having fun(winning), did you listen to that crowd, how many sellouts have they had in a row? IU has not sold out a full year since the 2013 season! Its getting to be like going to Assy Hall or going to visit the local antique shop, which one is better? The Antique shop is better, at least when buy something there you get value in it, unlike IU basketball where they throw money at stars and old coaches and get farther and farther from their history that they FIRED! Money follows accomplishments not HYPE and HOPE! Painter has a lot of talent and you can see his players getting better and better, and having fun! Painter will have 10 more years of success! IU needs to find a coach like Painter, but that won't happen, because their fans are looking for a name, a quick fix, they would rather buy it, not earn it!When Woodson is gone, they will suck. How ya like that?
Let me guess.. he’s trash?probably very few..

Don't fool yourself. IU fans show up for a crap team year after year. PU attendance dropped into the 4 digits at the end of Keady beginning of Painter. How's your midnight madness event going to start the season? Oh yeah, never picked back up did it. Great win and yet you run over here. The problem with your argument is that you bring up 20 years ago for Purdue, but you did get CRAP Team present history right!Don't fool yourself. IU fans show up for a crap team year after year. BINGO! It happens every year, unless you don't make it to the tournament! But I guess the bright side, you can't lose if you don't make it!You keep saying this and it’s just flat out wrong.

Spot on. Of course, bottom line is despite our struggles we still outdraw Purdue almost every year.Don't fool yourself. IU fans show up for a crap team year after year. Painter is number 1 or 2 coach in B10 and top 15-20 in country. Many on here still think Painter sucks and when Haas is gone, I mean Williams is gone, I mean Ivey is gone, I mean Edwards is gone… errr when Edey is gone … errr when Smith is gone they will suck.
We should hope Painter decides this NIL and transfer crap isn’t worth his time and he calls it quits. Otherwise, they’ve got things rolling for the next 10-15 years. They lose Furst this year. That’s it! Caleb free-king Furst.
Spot on. Of course, bottom line is despite our struggles we still outdraw Purdue almost every year.
I can’t imagine having a good team yet still constantly being on a rival’s message board desperately seeking approval.
Yes because a good midnight madness event is the key to a great seasonDon't fool yourself. IU fans show up for a crap team year after year. I'm not sure how old you are - but having lived through the 70's and 80's the tables were turned and the Indiana fans were insufferable to Purdue fans. I suppose payback is a little fun to get the upper hand. In fact, Indiana's varsity basketball coach had a television show where he deliberately egged on Indiana fans...even bringing a donkey on a show.PU gets their kicks rubbing it in IU's face and watching the rxn. See IU sucks chant.
Coming here is a chance to watch us suffer in real time. Some seriously sadistic stuff.
I guess we might deserve it, but PU fans...more so than any other fan who hates a team that I know of...really REALLY hate IU fans/grads.
Not at all, but just an example of the support IU receives despite a sub par product... and how PU fans have stepped off the bus when it wasn't running well. I've been shocked that support for the Hoosiers has remained strong, despite such crummy results. I live out of state and try and hit any away games in the SE if I can, and always a great IU turnout, even in Cameron and the Dean Dome.Yes because a good midnight madness event is the key to a great season
No but the entirety of the season might be, depending how it ends up. He might just need to get his players over the hump. Was last nights game disqualifying for May as IUs next coach? Half joking. He is less impressive though, to me, the more I pay attention to how his teams actually play.
They have a really good program. They’ve been more consistently successful than IU since RMK. But there’s no question the big difference has come from our last two coaching hires. Before Archie, I don’t think any sane Purdue fan could have made a case, really by any measure, that Purdue was in any way a better program than IU.Not at all, but just an example of the support IU receives despite a sub par product... and how PU fans have stepped off the bus when it wasn't running well. Twenty years doesn't matter. You guys go through 3-4 years of struggle and your attendance will drop precipitously as it has in the past. No idea why you haven't started a MM type event back up. You certainly have the support and enthusiasm to make it really fun. I guess there's just too much to do in W Laffy on a Saturday night between the cow tipping and tractor pulls.
Not sure I agree. Painter has elevated the program quite a bit and Purdue and iu probably won’t be fighting over many recruits. Remember, most of the guys on Purdue’s team were not good enough for iu. Also not to worried about Steven’s or Beard showing up at iu. One day though, they will likely get it right. Purdue is a very different program than 10 years ago though in terms of facilities, admin and university support, etc. They have a really good program. But 8 years of the worst basketball Indiana has ever played, contrasted with 8 years of the best basketball Purdue has ever played…puts us where we are today.
It’ll be interesting what will happen at Purdue if/when IU finally gets a good coach again. Because when IU has had a top of the B10 competitive team/program…since RMK…it’s been rare that Purdue has also been good. Davis and Crean destroyed Purdue when they had good teams, as an example.
My guess is when IU finds a good coach, Purdue will drop back to what they were before the last 8 years. Solid program, rarely nationally competitive, usually a factor in the upper half of the conference somewhere.
Right now…they have us. No harm in admitting that. IU hires someone like McCollum, they won’t have us for long. IU somehow hires someone like Stevens or Pearl, and they’re “done”. We’ll have Will Sheehey flexing on them on the regular again.
they turn it over too much. But that is not a staple of his past teams. Was last nights game disqualifying for May as IUs next coach? Half joking. He is less impressive though, to me, the more I pay attention to how his teams actually play.
Losing Kaufman-Renn and Furst to PU was one of the reasons Miller was fired in the year that he was, in my opinion.Remember, most of the guys on Purdue’s team were not good enough for iu.
Things can change very quickly with the right hire. You better be praying IU doesn’t make a wise decision this time. The problem with your argument is that you bring up 20 years ago for Purdue, but you did get CRAP Team present history right!
One historically bad year means they suck? Where they fired their coach for a new one. And one historically good year means a team doesn’t? Just trying to understand the threshold here.Things can change very quickly with the right hire. You better be praying IU doesn’t make a wise decision this time.
And Purdue sucks in the one sport that actually matters.
Purdue has had a bunch of losing seasons since 2007. Indiana has been ranked in the top ten for multiple weeks in two of the last five seasons. One historically bad year means they suck? Where they fired their coach for a new one. And one historically good year means a team doesn’t? Just trying to understand the threshold here.
Everyone is different. Not sure I agree. Painter has elevated the program quite a bit and Purdue and iu probably won’t be fighting over many recruits. I assume you are talking about Ben McCollum? Why would that be worst case scenario?Everyone is different.
And we have no idea who the next coach will go after recruits wise. I suspect McCollum would end up fishing in some similar waters, if he ended up being the guy. That’s probably a worst case scenario for Purdue, honestly.
And Purdues 10 year run happens to coincide with a particularly awful 10
Year run for IU. Maybe there’s enough oxygen for both programs to be nationally competitive? Im guessing there isn’t. Because it’s been very rare that it’s happened before.
In true Purdue fashion, the best thing that’s ever happened to their program, might have had nothing to do with them…it might have been IU hiring Crean, Miller, and Woodson.
Ben McCollum, obviously, yes.I assume you are talking about Ben McCollum? Why would that be worst case scenario?
But again, it depends on recruiting imo. Does the new coach try to clean up Indiana? Purdue has a roster of mostly Indiana kids. If they start flipping those guys, then yes, maybe it changes and Purdue struggles. But is iu fans going to be ok landing recruits like CJ Cox, Braden Smith and Jack Benter? Not enough stars.
How was I supposed to know you were talking about Ben McCollum? I still don’t know why he would be a scary hire.Ben McCollum, obviously, yes.
And yes, if he would even moderately value recruiting the top players in Indiana…it could potentially hurt a big part of Purdues main recruiting focus.
Anyone that comes in and effectively recruits the state, AND pulls elite players from the portal and HS ranks, would be bad for Painter and Purdue. They haven’t gotten a lot of the top Indiana kids, and have done very well with the guys they’ve gotten. But guys like Smith and TKR…would be more vulnerable to “lose” to IU, with a more engaged with the state IU coach.
You knew enough to make the assumption. And he’s the only McCollum coaching that’s been discussed here. How was I supposed to know you were talking about Ben McCollum? I still don’t know why he would be a scary hire.
The rest is assumption. Maybe one day we will find out
You know NIL doesn’t automatically mean “get rich quick.” It’s just paying players their market value like in any profession.Painter is a program guy. It's pretty evident he wants to run a program and develop players. It's old school and requires a certain recruit to buy in to it. There's no promises and you can compete with everyone else for playing time. It requires a recruit to abandon "get rich quick" dreams. Conventional thinking would say the odds are stacked against him in the current state of the game. But man, you can't question his pursuit of integrity in the game. But quite honestly, he hasn't really had highly classified recruits. Edey wasn't even on the radar. He just seems to have an eye for undercooked talent.
This is a pleasant fiction…for Purdue fans.Painter is a program guy. It's pretty evident he wants to run a program and develop players. It's old school and requires a certain recruit to buy in to it. I literally googled McCollum basketball coach and he was the first name to pop up. Had never heard of him before. So no, I didn’t know enough until I googled. Then I questioned myself if a non D1 coach was this guy to be scared of, so I asked. Great assumption though….You knew enough to make the assumption. And he’s the only McCollum coaching that’s been discussed here.
And you’re here, following. So you knew who I was referring to, obviously. So before you do it, don’t start with any “I don’t have to worry about other coaches.”…type stuff. You also shouldn’t have to worry about IU, yet you’re here. Following Purdue must not be fulfilling enough.
Also obviously no way to know what Purdue looks like when IU finally hires a good coach. Maybe it’ll help them somehow. But they’ve lived off getting a big chunk of Indiana kids, under Painter. And many of their most successful years have come with higher level Indiana kids leading them. Take a kid or two off those teams, put them on IUs team…might be very different.
