Nijel Pack is not getting a look from Indiana? Glaring weakness… shooting. His strength… shooting.

Visiting Purdue today.

He's an elite catch and shoot player. One of the best in the country. Unfortunately, he's a 2 guard trapped in PG body (5'10). He's made it clear he wants to play PG because that his path to the NBA (I don't see it, not dynamic enough). Will be interesting how Purdue sells him. Playing through a 7'4 oaf who can't function in PnR doesn't sound like a destination for a PG trying to get to the league.

Sounds like a perfect player to propel Purdue to the top of the league next year. That 7' 4" oaf improved quite a bit last year for only a couple years of balling. He will be 1st team next year.

That sound I hear doesn't resonate well for me. I find it depressing. Send a more pleasing vibration in a harmonious way.

Purdue is in desperate for anyone with any kind of ball handling skills. The 2 players that played PG for them this year weren't really true PGs and are both gone: Hunter (graduating) and Thompson (transferring). The only 2 guards even returning on the entire roster are Newman and Morton, neither of which are capable of running the point. Pack would be almost guaranteed 35 min a game if he goes to Purdue

They have a ton of minutes to sell and why Purdue is a huge draw. But not sure how playing PG at Purdue in Painter's system puts him in the best position to get drafted. That's Pack's conundrum.

Scouts have told Pack they want to see him "be the lead PG". With Ivey, Hunter and Thompson leaving, Purdue gives him that opportunity and plenty of minutes. IU could not do the same

Well, Painter can sell Carsen Edwards - Pack isn't Edwards, but Pack will see an undersized guard that was allowed to take more than a 3rd of the entire team's shots in Painter's system.

Doesn't Purdue have one of the best efficient offenses in the country? They have had really high scoring teams in the BIG the last couple years, isn't that a great system to show your talent in???

Painter’s system is a motion offense. The PG isn’t running the show and facilitating.

He has gotten away from the motion and runs more set plays than most teams. He calls a set play almost every time down the floor. He got away from the motion when Edward's showed up, then he hired Shrewsberry to continue to build it.

How many PG's has Matt Painter put in the NBA in the last 17 years? How many have been asked to be dynamic? How many 5'10 PG's are currently in the NBA who aren't dynamic or have played in a system that allows them to be dynamic?

He'll be allowed to take as many 3's as he wants wherever he goes, he's one best catch and shoot guys in the country. He wants to be utilized in an offense that allows him to play PG at the next level. That's tough to do with a 7'4 center standing in the middle of the lane.

Purdue plays in the Big Ten not the NBA! Currently Carson Edwards came back to play for the Pistons. Scored 13 points with 9 assists. Signed a 2 year contract.

Who cares....they have Painter.Enough said.

well said! IU has had 4 different coaches since Painter took over, been in the sweet 16 once since 2016. totally jealous. add the fact the Purdue has never ever made a play in game like the storming hoosiers did this year. What a disaster in WL.

Its certainly not a disaster in WL, and Painter has found some solid consistency of which I would love to have right now, but that seems like the ceiling there. Purdue supposedly had their best team in a generation and finished 3rd in the BT when the top the conference was really weak and lost to a 15 seed in the tournament. Without Carsen Edwards, Painter has 1 win against a single digit seed in the tournament and hasn't finished first or second in the conference since JuJuan Jonhson and Etwaun Moore were playing.

That's a nice problem for Purdue to have if Pack does try to do it. It makes them tough to beat....strong down low, tough on top with a whole lot of shake'n going on in between. That said, I hope Pack goes elsewhere but it seems like destiny is about to be filled, unfortunately. That might prove to be the shitz for IU.

Agree with that. He averaged a little over 2 assists per game. Not what we need.

You don't see very many sub 6 footers in the league. The Peacocks provided the final blue print on stopping PU's Frankensteins: press and a 2-3 zone, can't play man. Plus, Edey can't even play half of a game.

I suppose PU can sell guard playing time, but the 50's style of play that ignores guards doesn't help. Plus, Painter is what he is at this point: Tom Crean minus the Final Four.

Best team since 2017, but I agree. Until Painter gets more athleticism at the guard position, he's found his ceiling. There is some athleticism in the 2023 class, so we shall see.

Why can't edey play more than a half a game? Where have we seen this happen?

So Purdue it hurts.

What self-respecting basketball program measures their teams success in Sweet 16's? And by an arbitrary year (2016) no less?

Saw KenPom released his "dynasty" rankings over the last six years this morning. Can't help but wonder how many Boiler fans are cranking it to their 6th place finish. Banner in order?

He averaged less than 20 minutes a game and was riding the pine against the Peacocks in crunch time. I'll believe it when I see it.
Trevion Williams was better than him and they split minutes. Can't play them together. Trevion was also better than edey vs Saint Peter's.

27 minutes vs Illinois and 25 vs iu the following game. 27 vs minny. Coincidence that Williams played under 20 minutes those games?

But if Edey can't play more than 20 minutes, which he can, I guess Purdue will look much more modern 20 minutes a game with furst at the 5, meaning Purdue can highlight a guards abilities to feed the post and push in a 5 wide offense.

Until Edey can hit FT's, he'll hover around the 20 mpg mark. Don't think I ever saw Edey in the last 4-5 minutes of a moderately close game last year due to his FT shooting and Painter not trusting him with the ball in his hand.

Coach Geezer,

now that tourney is over wearing out the Beta and 1976 championship game? Keep hangin on old man

64%, down 7% from last year, but still like 8% better than trevion. So that makes no sense. Have the worse shooter on at end of games this year? Next year, I'd rather have furst in when icing a game though. Edey has a good stroke.

Why on Earth do you think Matt hasn't clearly displayed what his ceiling is at this point? How many times do you have to see it? Jeez.
