Worked under one of the best, has great foriegn ties... 50 years old. Does he have a buyout? Would he want to come to Bloomington? Earn himself 2.5-3 more million a year. Probably has it made in Arizona. Idk, more NIL at IU.

Yep, don't believe you would, but I guess you can ask. Not checking with him would be a mistake. Why would you leave Arizona to come to Indiana
The best tenderloin sandwiches known to man and away from the nuts in Sedona. Why would you leave Arizona to come to Indiana
Everyone has different reasons. Everyone has different preferences. Some people think it’s crazy to live in Indiana. I like to visit Florida but wouldn’t live there for free. Why would you leave Arizona to come to Indiana

when you meet someone from Arizona who moved to Indiana to retire let me knowEveryone has different reasons. Everyone has different preferences. Some people think it’s crazy to live in Indiana. I like to visit Florida but wouldn’t live there for free.
I’m not even meaning this to be a smart ass, but what is Indiana’s fit? We are 30 years removed from any shred of consistent culture and identity. Since then it’s been a sad assortment of sulking faces, deflection counts, and one insurmountable hump. Truthfully, I don’t care if we are running like a Mike D’antoni team or shutting people down like Virginia’s teams under Bennet. Just win! Can’t argue with the job he’s done at Arizona. Sean Miller’s last few years there were less than stellar and he came in and turned them around.
Not sure his European style fits Indiana, but it definitely fits College Basketball. And, it’s not like his teams don’t play defense. ‘24 season they ranked #10 on KP and this year currently at #14.
Short D1 resume, but definitely worth a look.
You know Cronin has won consistently, but he also has an exceptionally talented roster and is currently only 5th in the Big Ten. You have to look for coaches that get more than face value from their squad.I do. There are so many coaches out there that would make us so much better and consistently so than we've been in the past 30 years. Literally so many.
Lloyd turned down multiple offers over the years before taking the Arizona job. His Gonzaga contract stipulated that if Few left or retired, the job was his. He's very respected in the coaching community but doesn't get much attention in the Midwest/East. One of 3-4 coaches in the west to consider.I don't know much about Tommy Lloyd. But the guy is 105-27 in 3.x years at Arizona, with two S16's. He went there with no HC experience, being an assistant at Gonzaga. If he'd have been suggested for the IU job when he got the AZ job everyone here would have scoffed. But now he's successful and suddenly people think he'd leave AZ for IU? Not likely.
The lesson is that it's hard to poach a successful coach from a big program. If you're unwilling to take a shot at a promising up and coming coach from a lesser program, you'll end up with proven middling guys like Tom Crean.
That Big Name you all covet, whoever that is? He's not coming here. Find the next Tommy Lloyd, or whoever fits that bill.
Pretty much every day, more names get floated that would likely be successful at IU... I strongly suspect 10 years from now, everyone will agree that Dolson "got this one right" He might not pick, or be able to land, the absolute BEST fit. But as you said, there are so many quality guys, that I think its more likely than not, whoever he lands will be our best coach since RMK.I do. There are so many coaches out there that would make us so much better and consistently so than we've been in the past 30 years. Literally so many.
Same state-close enough with those nuts. Only been in the Phoenix airport and driven straight through so not an expert on Arizona geography.Having lived in SE Arizona ... Sedona is nowhere close to Tucson.![]()
I loved where I lived until January 2021 after the inauguration. Best bicycling and hiking I had ever experienced, mountain views from the patio but only 9 miles from the border presented problem after that date. sold and moved.Same state-close enough with those nuts. Sounds very nice. Understand about the border. I took my wife one time to Big Bend park and in the summer and very dry so deepest water was mbout knee deep. I couldn’t convince her it was actually a national border since walk across no problem with no Customs or Passport control. I repeated myself several times and explained that really was the national border. I believe Arizona has always been a popular smuggling route but not from any personal experience. I have been to some rough places but those border towns on the Mexico side always put my risk sense tingling.I loved where I lived until January 2021 after the inauguration. I know several from Florida. And they retired in Bloomington. Don’t know anyone actually from AZ. Personally, 115 degrees in summer is not something I’m a fan of.when you meet someone from Arizona who moved to Indiana to retire let me know
I always thought Bloomington was a nice, relatively inexpensive, but high quality of life small city. Brown County is also very nice.I know several from Florida. And they retired in Bloomington. Don’t know anyone actually from AZ. Personally, 115 degrees in summer is not something I’m a fan of.
If there are less than six degrees of separation from a Miller, I'd be skeptical.Lloyd is 6-3 vs Cronin head to head FYI.
He's also done well vs other Big Ten teams. 23-8 against teams currently in the Big Ten.
Started better than his predecessor right away (Sean Miller). However, his best season so far was with mostly inherited players. This year's team is near the bottom of the Big12 in 3pt%. And also, their highest volume 3pt shooter is under 30%. That's not good. Same thing is going on at MSU this year however.
Has been 1st or 2nd in conference in 4 yrs at UA (counting this yr).
2 sweet 16s. Lost to Houston, Princeton , and Clemson in the tourney.
He is getting a lot of foreign players + transfers so perhaps the jury is still out on if he could connect with Midwestern high school kids. That's a big question mark. I don't think anyone is thrilled to see Woodson lose out on Braylon Mullens and watch 3 former Hoosiers lead their new teams in scoring this year.
So in my opinion, recruiting for the Big Ten is a question mark with Llyod.
I had a friend in 2020 that had lived in that Big Bend area for 10 years, tell me "it won't get better no matter how bad you want it to or how bad you want to live there while thinking things will change" He was right I found out from friends that stayed, the newspaper and their accounts on Facebook/X. When you have a neighbor that is a BPA tell you "no more solo camping, no more solo hiking in the mountains and no more riding your bike along the new wall until I tell you that you can again ... stop what you have been doing." ... then words of my first friend mentioned there was a factor. 24 town citizens killed in 26 months from high speed vehicle crashes as per the city sheriff interview last summer.Sounds very nice. Sorry I got off the OP's topic.
