Another piece on CMW's tenure...

First of all, couldn't Edey actually return?

Second, I have read several times on here that PU will go down after XXXX leaves, they will come back to reality.
I swear I have read that the past 8-10 years and yet they still are winning.

As much as I HATE and I mean HATE to say it, it might just come down to Painter being a good coach.
At least during the regular season!!
And I am afraid if they keep knocking on that door they will eventually walk through! DAMN!

He could be he already announced he wasn't returning.

I should've prefaced my statement by saying, I am not knocking Painter. He is a good coach and that has been self-evident over the years. His style was the correct style prior to NIL while IU flopped about. All I am saying is Edey has allowed that style to look like its sustaining itself due to him carrying that team, not just as a good team but to the upper echelon of college bball. The team isn't then going to fall off and be awful, that isn't my implication either. My implication is that it doesn't take a large drop off for players to question their place on the team.

The issue is in the NIL world, if you're not dominating in the fashion they have, it doesn't take but a small step backwards from that pedestal for the modern player to become unhappy. It's hard to feel like your coach is making the wrong PT decisions with you sitting the bench if your team is in the running for a top seed. You are ok with it because your time is coming. That same logic, however, isn't going to feel the same when the team is scrapping for lower seeds and there is more failure sprinkled about the season. That same player thinks they could help the team improve.

college is a coach's game. Painter will do just fine. we don't have a coach.

Yes, I am almost positive Edey still has his covid year. I don't think he is with all the hoopla and jersey retirement, but he could return. Secondly, Painter is a damn good coach, period. If you haven't accepted it by now, you probably never will, but he's good.
He has a COVID year but he and PU announced back in February that he wasn't returning next season to use that COVID season. Did I miss something and that was retracted?

The group of teams that compete for conference championships annually, and then go on to compete for Natty's, has remained fairly consistent. There are a couple teams that have dipped a little the last few years, Villanova comes to mind. But UConn, North Carolina, Duke, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kansas, Houston, Kentucky, Alabama, Gonzaga, Arizona... they all seem to be rolling along just fine before and since NIL/Portal dynamics kicked in.

Its absurd that IU isn't on that list. And I only put Purdue and Wisky on the list because they've remained constant at the top of the conference.

UConn had lots of transfers. Since 2016, Wisconsin has had 3, 5, 5, 7, 8, 9 seeds and haven't made it out of the first weekend since 2019 (prior to NIL). I would like to hope that isn't the goal we're aiming for here. Houston, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, Alabama, Gonzaga and Arizona have all done exactly what IU needs to do. Use the transfer portal and recruit HS talent to fill in/develop, that is literally my entire point.

If the early season results next year are an extension of this year....a probability at best....would Woodson be fired during the season? While that is out of character for IU...is that a real possibility?

No, the question was could he return, not would he.

I feel there are several really damning issues about Woodson.
1. Zero incoming recruits. Has that ever happened?
2. To me there is an arrogance. For example, refusal to answer questions about his job (all coaches get that) and a no show for radio shows.
3. The team just doesn’t seem happy. Since I am not on the inside, and this is a judgement call, I could be wrong. But I watch the ladies and it just seems different.
4. Lack of discipline. I know whith X’s speeding arrest the forum was split with many feeling it was not a big deal and some the opposite. I felt the message sent with the absence of cause and effect would be a problem. Maybe it allowed X’s action resulting in a game ejection and university embarrassment, maybe not.
I have no inside facts and have never played nor coached college basketball, just an opinion as a fan who is no longer donating and no longer wearing Indiana T shirts with the pride I once had.
Don't forget MM's taco argument......that was a bad sign of things to come.

Meh. They'll be ok. Not top 25, imo.
Who returns more than them in the BIG?
They return
Smith
loyer
TKR
Colvin
Furst
Heide

That’s a a very good core group. Plus add Catchings. I hate it but Paintet has them set to be good for a while.

Meh, it's ok to me. Smith is their best player bid a wide margin. The rest...we'll see.
