An awful performance by myself in life

Wow. He played 37 minutes and made 2 shots. Put him into the hall of fame. Parker wouldn’t start for another team in the tournament or the B1G. One of Parker’s better defensive performances until he fouled a 3 point shooter to make it a 4 point play. Try and separate my critique of the oerowamfe vs the performance. Parker’s performance for the last 6 weeks has been putrid. Shooting around 27% from the field.
He created 3/4 TO and played man style d on there best player. Everyone else was getting abused. Parker does great for what he has. He is not as quick as tamar, can’t jump as high as JG, but he knows where he needs to be and how to do it to the best of his abilities. He also demands players to hug him. He is easily the most worrisome shooter on every scouting report. They never leave him where they sag off every other player with exception of miller. Race, JG, Trey get 0 respect. That changes the spacing for everyone else.

understand the game more man.

Race looked like he didn't belong last night.
He's play was super subpar..
He'll be more important against St.Mary's thank Parker..

Except for one good second half, Race has been mostly MIA for the last four games

I hate to pile on Stewart, but he truly brings us nothing if he is not able to shoot and HIT threes. Nothing. Bates should get his minutes. Tighten the rotation to:

Trayce
Race
X
Kopp
Geronimo
Galloway
RP

No one else should play unless necessary. I am sure Coach starts Parker again and he sees significant minutes, but I hope it's because he is actually contributing points and not making stupid ass fouls.
I was surprised to see PStew on Maldanado as much as he was and pleasantly surprised at how well he played him. But he brought little offensively.

Wgaf. The game is more than just scoring. The performance and behavior of the supposed fans is putrid. I mean I guess getting in with clearly flawed players playing their hearts out isn’t good enough. I get it but picking on Parker in this instance just shows how ignorant some of you are.

It was a good win. We didn't play great and still won by 8. We definitely need to play better against St Mary's but we have the first game jitters behind us.
St. Mary’s leading scorer is in the paint. We will work him to death. They are more of the typical team we see and I expect we will win this one. Even playing like we did. We need to start giving this team some respect.

Geronimo is a beast. His put-backs saved our ass tonight and he should be in there 35 mins a games.
I did marvel at the “Ike Shuffle” every time he backed down in the lane. There was a lot feet movement going on down deep under the basket.
Never in my life seen a guy throw an elbow and the call on the court is reversed like that and the other guy is called for a foul. Very bizarrely called game.
Every team in the tournament has guys that can play. You don’t go 25-8 and not be doing something right. We weren’t going to win that type of game by 30 points. It was a good, grinding game IU wasn’t anywhere near to their best play in this game, but they kept at it and played through the mistakes.
I did not see this as a "thrown elbow" as much as a basketball move rotation that shoved Race away. Call it an offensive foul but not an F1. And as you say it was certainly not a foul on Race, that decision was indefensible.

Bates should get Stewart's minutes, but he's not in your rotation? Bates made a nice play on that drive and pull up and with our god awful shooting, I'd keep working him in just because he can manufacture points and that's not something very many on our team can do. I agree with benching Stewart and keep playing Kopp some, he's better on D and all around and has still had games where he's shot well. Personally I think Stewart has been 7-10 lbs overweight all year and I can't understand why they haven't worked it off him, because he's slow.

Was there an earthquake too?
I haven't seen anyone mention it, but they pointed it out on Assembly Call, but maybe it was the ball? It was a weird color (I guess Cuban tweeted that it looked like they were playing with a $5 Walmart rubber ball) and both teams definitely had trouble holding on to it. I just thought we were really tight at first, but Race and XJ both fumbled it a bunch especially at the start of the game, Race and Parker both losing it on their way up for shots and of course their PG with 10 TOs.... Maybe it was the ball?

correct...Race was standing straight up. Ike swung his elbow and cleared Race to the ground. Call it common foul, call it F1 (which is was not), call it 'basketball move, no foul/play on'...but no way in hell it was a foul on Race. I didn't think they could review a play to determine "who" the foul should be called on. It would have been Ike's 3rd foul, early in the 2nd half, and that would have been it for WY. We won, but if they made the right call we probably win by 15-20.

I think Kopp brought even less tonight.
He did have a bad game, but I think he's proven himself to be a better overall player on O and D than Stewart, steadier at the line and he's had a couple decent shooting games in the last several. I'd sub Geronimo for Stewart, and frankly would not have a problem subbing Galloway for Kopp, if he just weren't so god-awful a shooter too. I don't think St Marys is very big, maybe give Rob more of Kopp's minutes.

The fact that they change the ball still is just asinine. That Wilson ball is so different than the Adidas ball we use. Can you imagine a pitcher using different baseballs? 0 chance It doesn't effect shooters and ball handlers. ZERO

I HATE that light orange ball. I need to buy one so I get it out of my head. It looks like they're playing with a balloon.

I assume once you dribble and shoot with it for a while, you adjust and it isn't a big deal.

I remember back when I played the "Solution" balls were just coming out. The soft, grippy ones. And one of the brands had a really dark brown version that some of the colleges around us used. Man I hated those.

I would have said yes to TG for Kopp...until Trey came back from his injury. He really seems out of sorts at the moment. Playing too fast. Rob hasn't looked good either.

Kopp- 21 min, 0 points, 0 assists, 2 rebounds. Granted, he did raise his defense a notch in the B1G tourney. But he was the invisible man last night.

The problem is having them both starting and on the court at the same time. Those spots (2/3) are supposed to be the shooters on the team. Stew's shot is as "off" as it's been all season. And Kopp could not get an open look again.

TJD put the team on his back last night. Hopefully Race gets some sleep tonight, he really looked out of sync in the WY game. Need a better results from everyone against StM.

As much as I hate to say it...we probably need to stick with our starting lineup we've had most of the year. We've won a few games now, which has probably boosted our confidence a bit. Don't mess that up by not starting those guys at this point. Whether they start or not, both Kopp and Stewart are obviously going to play. So might as well keep their roles the same. Just sub Jordan, Rob, Tamar, and Trey in sooner.

I actually think we're going to need one or both of Kopp or Stewart, to play well against St Marys. They aren't going to allow TJD and Race to bully them down low. They'll be much better and more active doubling them. Kopp and Stewart should get some really easy open looks tomorrow night. Whether they knock them down or not could be a huge key in the game. Heck, whether they even take them or not. They both pass up A LOT of decent looks. We could be sooooo good if they were confident, effective shooters.

Maybe someone already mentioned this - but Ike’s game looked somewhat like Zach Randolph. Not as good obviously. But same kind of body and movement. Bang and back down. Create space. Finish below the rim.

oh I agree...tweaking the lineup now is probably counter productive. CMW has been subbing as needed. In many of the close games over the past month, some of the "starters" are watching from the bench in the last 10 minutes of the game. CMW knows enough to see who has the hot hand that night, and runs with it.

We will have to hit outside shots vs StM if we want any chance to win. I'm still shocked WY didn't throw some zone at us in the second half and pack the lane. Some coaches are stubborn and refuse to switch up, especially if they are not fans of zone D. I remember a coach many yrs ago who had a similar mindset.

I was at the game and I concur on the “strangeness” of the ball. It looked “slick.” I don’t know how to define it but looked as if it might have been more difficult to grip. Shooters work on touch and usually prefer a ball that has a little wear on it.

In the box score under total points by p Stew, I agree. Brought little offensively to the team, though, I vehemently disagree. You don’t force that many turnovers without it directly benefiting the offense. If those turnovers were cut in half we are losing the game, and likely scoring in the 50s.

I can remember 2 or three missed bunnies because of Parker's stout D and moving him off his spot.

JG hasn’t played well at the 3 when given the chance. He’s just not steady enough. Now at the 4 he’s a beast. Big difference in his abilities.

Perfectly stated. Ugly play but good enough for the W. How many people held their breath with 14 seconds left and us up by six? We aren't beating St. Mary's with an effort like that.
It wasn’t so much effort as it was we just couldn’t hit shit. How many wide open 3s did we miss? We only hit two for the entire game that I can remember. Seems like we missed 14 or 15.

Similar to Iowa Rutgers game in Big 10 tournament, Harper gets elbow to face, and is called for a cylinder violation. Would have been 2nd foul on IA Star and send him to bench for a good portion of the first half. (Over the past couple of years there have been at least three instances where RU player got struck in the face and have had cylinder violation called on him)

2 for 13. X and JG each made one. If you told me that result before the game, plus only shooting 60% from the FT line, plus how "good" all the experts said WY was, I would have said Wyoming by 15+. Luckily they had a power forward trying to play point guard who kept dribbling off his foot.

And I think you can credit that last part to our defense. The effort was there. Last night was a horrible offensive display. Part of that can be WY’s defense (and what the refs were allowing) but our offense generated a lot of open shots (not just 3s) and close shots that we just didn’t hit. Nearly missed half of our FTs too.

That type of outing equals a loss against St Mary's. Do we have any prayer that we can make some 3s? Why is Kopp on the floor so much? He does not defend real well, he is slow and cannot throw it in the ocean. Stewart is another liability. We have to somehow figure out how to make an outside shot or it could be brutal.
gotta disagree with you here. True, the outside shots were not working. But Parker and to a lesser extent Kopp were matched up against Maldando and Parker really held his own. He also made a nice jumper from the baseline late in the game.

We went on a run after that shot I believe.

Truthfully, other than a couple that Geronimo took, I don't think IU got many good/open looks from 3. A lot of those shots were forced and out of rhythm

I don’t think it was right to change the foul call to Race on a review, but Race fouled Ike at least twice with reach-ins before Ike gave him the elbow

One big factor is that Wyoming is actually a very athletic team, but it wasn't readily apparent on offense because of an atypical PG and how they generally ran there offense, which mostly just had players standing around while Ike/Maldonado posted up their defender.

Maldonado is a converted undersized PF that doesn't have the speed and ball handling to take guys to the hoop so he just slowly backs guys down, but is otherwise very athletic for his size, but just doesn't have the speed of a typical PG. And the other 3 guards they used, all have major conference size and athleticism (although maybe are lacking a few lbs), but again really just stood around on offense

But on defense, it caused a lot of problems, and prevented IU from getting a lot of good looks to shoot
