American Airlines plane crash

There was a former chopper pilot on either Newsmax or Fox who in an aside (while they were discussing NVG use) mentioned they he had a "near miss" with a landing aircraft at Reagan because he mistook their lights as ground background lights (they basically blended into the background) ...

It's possible that this happens more often than is publicly reported...

It is the SECOND PILOT, not in command, aka co-pilot, who hasn't been identified yet, but rumors are was female.

I couldn’t tell you the first thing about flying a Blackhawk Helicopter, or any helicopter. I also couldn’t tell you what military protocol is for these situations.

Nor have I seen any information about who was doing what and when.

But I can tell you that, for the aircraft I’ve flown, Pilot in Command is not the same thing as Pilot in Control.

I’m sure a whole, whole lot happens that isn’t publicly reported - maybe especially in that airspace (which is, or is at least very near, the most restricted airspace in the world).

They'll learn who was actually flying the helicopter by who has the severely broken thumb when they recover the other two military personnel.

Apologies if anyone related to the crew is reading this but that's one of the ways they actually determine who was in control of the helicopter...

There could be a million different reasons. My brother is a West Point grad and spent several years flying the Blackhawk. I talked to him at lunch and his thoughts were: (1) it is up to the blackhawk pilot to avoid commercial aircraft; (2) the Blackhawk is nearly impossible to see at night; (3) radar at airports is limited, and it is starting to be come antiquated. He pointed out that the radio reports indicate that the helicopter pilot was aware of jet, ATC told him about it, and he acknowledged it. Could be an instrument failure, could be an issue where the blackhawk pilot and crew were focused on internal controls. Could be anything.

I really don't need to blame anyone at the moment. 60 plus people lost their lives in an accident. I'm almost think some people on this board are actually not too upset because it becomes an easy off road to take a shit on someone.

This is the text my brother sent me last night after talking with his West Point buddies:

"This is as good of an explanation as we have seen. Bottom line, helicopter cannot be above 200’ and needs to hug the east bank of river. Looks like he got to 300’, for a little bit more toward the center of the river, making it worse, and did not ID the correct aircraft."

I am mostly concerned that the FAA/ATC hire the best possible people for the job. Obviously, the prior administration had no such goal.
Obviously you have no clue if the best people were hired or not in the prior administration. If understaffing iissues is accurate, then everyone that is qualified likely was hired and dei would have had 0 effect.

If they are working 60 hours plus a week then maybe the bigger issue is not attracting enough people to work as an ATC

Trump shouldn't have said what he said. No one is expecting "quiet acquiescence" about that. Jesus would ask you to love and forgive him, though. Do you?
Forgiveness? Can you imagine Trump ever asking for anyone’s forgiveness? Me neither.

Love? I’m a frequent blood donor. I’m strong, healthy, monogamous and drug-free, so my donations are always gladly accepted. If, by some extraordinary set of circumstances, Trump ever needed my blood, I’d roll up my sleeve and ask “where’s the phlebotomist?”After his transfusion, though, I might mess with his head by lying and telling him that, prior to my donation, I had a wild weekend of unprotected sex with an assortment of LGBTQ people. Lol.
