American Airlines plane crash

Don’t care about feelings. Get the best people. And if we already have them great

I wasn’t saying anyone should be fired/hired based on feelings. I just think it’d be wild for the president and VP to indirectly throw you under the bus immediately after a tragedy like this.

Wild, reckless and irresponsible. But that’s what/who he is.

Which is why it’s stupid to suggest this had anything to do with any policy or DEI hiring process. Maybe an investigation proves that some policy or less than qualified employee was at fault eventually, but it’s dumb to point to that without knowing.
Whether they have any fault in this or not, the ATC's policies and procedures will be scrutinized. To have 2 aircraft collide midair is just an unacceptable occurrence.
Hiring should, and will be looked at. Trump just signed the EO last week removing DEI within the FAA. Maybe you are not concerned about the quality of ATC's, but I think most people are. To have a tragedy like this after Trump signed the EO brings that practice into focus, No?
I said in another thread that it certainly appears to me that we have had more "near misses" in the last year than I can remember, That includes planes starting take-off rolls on taxi-ways, airplanes crossing runaways when a plane has started its roll on same runway, and near miss collisions in air. So yes, I believe these hiring practices need to be looked at, and unfortunately it takes an accident to bring it into light.

In conclusion
It’s at once a rush to judgment to pin this on DEI without further info
The timing is poor optics in keeping with trump’s dreadful decorum
It’s an opportunity to later review the hires to ensure we have the best people possible
Last election was a referendum on Biden Harris hence it was their duty to have a primary

Now I’m going to have a lovely lunch with my fat bald partners and turn on Europa and secretly hope manu loses @larsIU

Yes but it was of no moment. Desantis vek trump were unified maga. That’s who people wanted. It didn’t matter which
You and Marv are trying to shift the burden to the pubs. No the burden rested squarely with the Dems. The election was a referendum on their 4 years of bad policies. When Harris was asked what would you do differently from Biden and she said she couldn’t think of anything it was game over.

People hated the policies of Biden and Harris. Therefore it was the Dem party’s burden to find someone else.

I have blamed Biden for not getting out. I wanted people to jump in. I never said that people should vote for Harris. I am not afraid to take my party to task for mistakes, and they made them. But if you believe Trump was a mistake and you must because you are trying to place blame on the Democrats, than the Republicans have blame too. They could have stopped him. The option was there. No one held a gun to their head as they voted overwhelmingly for Trump.

The Dems screwed up, no doubt about it. That doesn't mean (if Trump is a mistake) that the GOP are sweet little angels in this. Not the party, the voters. The GOP voters had every chance in the world to vote someone else. You liked DeSantis, you know that is right. But for some reason you are scanred to make your team mad at you.

Cool, but that's not the question you originally asked.

You question was who other then Trump ran on immigration as a Republican. I answered it.

It’s too late, Ohio. Just 12 hours after the crash, while the search for bodies continues and the NTSB is assembling its investigative team, the insane leader of the free world has already created a political narrative for MAGA to run with. Investigation and facts be damned.
Man, those people who eat his shit up are so fukin dumb. Have to be, I guess.

No not in the least. I don’t think they’d have been much difference. I’ve worked and played for trump. Almost exclusively. His way means nothing to me. I want to see how his approach plays out re shrinking the gov, vetting agencies, isolating, etc. I’m all for it. Tariffs are what worries me

I’ve also said this tragedy should and will be investigated. We agree on that.

Jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers without knowing who is involved is stupid.

I asked who else? The only viable choices are maga. That’s clear. So which maga is immaterial. One might be more brash and crass but as I told Marv that’s all I’ve ever known

The failed policies were owned by Dems. Hence their burden

That's a bullshit, strawman argument to try to make, and I would hope you know it. Saying we should wait for the investigation in no way means anyone is unconcerned about the quality of ATCs (no apostrophe needed, btw). Let's establish if the quality of this one is the issue first. Maybe you aren't concerned with getting to the actual crux of the issue, but I think most people are.

He also commented about the third aircraft that is seen in the crash video. He speculated (and that’s all it is at this point) that when the Black Hawk pilot commented to the tower that he had the CRJ in sight, he may have been referring to the third aircraft.
That third aircraft (given the size) from that video appears to be the plane that just departed Reagan heading north. That camera angle has to be from far north, looking south. You can see that plane departing on the radar video from JDM above. The Blackhawk was past that, heading south.

Maybe that's what he thought they were talking about, but that jet was in his rearview by that time.

Last on this Marv. I’m excited to see all this stuff trunp is doing. But to be clear who knows. It could end up a terrible disaster. But then we’ll know. Our gov isn’t bloated. It’s necessary. Etc

So this wasn't you

In a sane country the election would look like Desantis v Haley v Newsom v Whitmer v Shapiro

Or this:

Desantis is smarter than trump Biden and all of Biden’s admin. You could get rid of them all and just have Desantis. That he isn’t the next president is an indictment on the system. You either have to be a swamp rat like Biden or sensational so the media can pull ratings and get bites like trump.

Of course that’s true. I’d rather have Desantis. Trump is congruent policy wise with Desantis. Desantis is just a sane version. But that has nothing to do with who has the burden here. Do you not understand that the election was a referendum on Dem policy over the last 4 years. People thought their policies were shit and they rolled them out again. It was dem’s burden. You don’t agree? It’s a policy distinction. Trump Desantis same. Biden Harris different. So Dems had to find someone who didn’t adopt their policies the public repudiated

We had a bail project release murder someone in my neighborhood. I’m not voting for Harris. I’d vote trump over that. Policy

Can anyone name the last airline crash not contributed to by mistakes?
If you watch very many airplane videos you will see that a lot are not contributed to pilot error. But when you talk about human mistakes then there are a lot more.

Hegseth said the helicopter was on a training mission. Seems weird to do that at night by a busy airport but I suppose it’s necessary.
I've read several places not to read too much into that because even on a training mission the pilot may have lots of hours.

If you want to play the flight back go here (if it works that is):

I give up, I guess the Republicans didn't have a primary. He was coronated king of the party with no elections last year. DeSantis never entered the race.

Trump won. I haven't been critical of much to do with what he has done (Kennedy was the exception because I firmly believe he is either antivaxx or more likely, pretended to be antivaxx to fleece people). Go back and look, I didn't complain about Hegseth. I haven't posted complaints about the EOs. This country knew what he was going to do, it may be wrong as sin, but it is what was voted for.

But Trump doesn't get to create false narratives. He knows, his most fervent supporters know, that the first narrative is what often sticks even when completely wrong. 3 years from now, not matter the final cause, people are going to remember this was the accident caused by DEI. So they will flat out lie to get that narrative out there. That's what I am complaining about here. Who knows, maybe somewhere someone will find a DEI connection. But now, this moment, it is a f*ng disgrace to go there. It isn't Biden's fault he went there, it isn't my fault, it isn't your fault. It is only one person's fault. Same for DBM. Trump didn't send Seal Team 6 in to force him to post that stuff several times.

You miss the germane distinction. Again. Policy. Pubs were only going to elect someone who advocated the policies trump did. So whether it was Desantis or the vek or trump didn’t matter. Pubs were good. They had the policies Americans wanted

Conversely the public did not want the policies of harris and Biden. So it was their burden to get someone with DIFFERENT policies. When Harris said she’d do nothing different it was game over

Sure I’d prefer it wasn’t trump. Today we get ugly trump. There will be more of these days. But I’ve always said both sides lie incessantly so vote on policy

Nothing like this happened under Mayor Pete's watch.

Yeah, that's a STUPID thing to say, and I'm only saying it because it is the mirror of what we heard for the last 4 years from the Trumpswabs

Ugly Trump? There is no other.
I take that back, Melania had an excellent post. Too bad she wasn't born in the USA.

So, if the ATC in this incident is a white heterosexual male who also drinks too much, and maybe even cheats on his wife, can we blame Pete Hegseth? Because, here's the thing...this happened under Trump's watch. The buck stops squarely on his desk, so it's his fault, either by his action or inaction. He doesn't get to play Monday morning armchair QB after the fact, because he's the fcking starter here.
I would like to know about the background and training of the pilot to see if there were mistakes made in training

Lot of spinning on this thread to justify the stupid things Trump and Vance said. Assigning any blame now is ridiculous. And as far as DEI, I can tell some of you guys have never hired anyone in your life.

You act like there are all the great white male resources that are just waiting to finally get a fair chance. In reality there are very few grat candidates hence why many white collar and trade jobs are struggling to fill positions. Between drugs, laziness, cell phone addiction, poor problem solving skulls, etc. DEI is the least of our worries. We are a nation of lazy uneducated people.

it certainly appears to me that we have had more "near misses" in the last year than I can remember,
Two primary reasons for this: 1) ATCs are being pushed to the limits. The United States has experienced an ATC shortage for at least 20 years. It got worse in 2020 when Covid hit, demand for commercial air travel plummeted, numerous ATCs accepted retirement packages, and hiring/training initiatives came to a screeching halt; 2) commercial air travel set records in the US in 2024. The TSA experienced 17 of its 20 busiest days in history in '24. Several major airports set single-year passenger records. US passenger and cargo airlines reached their largest workforce (pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, agents, etc.) ever. Meanwhile, the number of ATCs continued to lag behind.

Fortunately, in response to the shortage, the FAA expanded the College Training Initiative to include a number of colleges and universities. This program allows graduates to bypass the FAA Academy while still required to pass the FAA's stringent testing for certification as an ATC.

Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) said that the FAA Academy program created a "bottleneck" that slows hiring and contributes to the ATC shortage. "We need more qualified air traffic controllers out in the workforce, and it makes sense to leverage the expertise of [UND's aviation school] to meet this critical need,” Hoeven said. “That’s an incredible value to students and a benefit to communities across the country, whose local economies rely on safe and reliable air service.”

Despite the ATC shortage, commercial air travel in the United States has remained exceptionally safe. But carry on with the Trump narrative.

Or just showing that you’re actually too stupid to know better than to post on a political board? Bc if that’s true you get no benefit. You’re just our Otis

Speculation, but... From all I have read, this is likely not the plane's pilot's fault. Blackhawks are extremely hard to see at night, by design, so visual avoidance is not easy, no matter what your training. Avoidance relies mainly on the copter and ATC.

There could be a million different reasons. My brother is a West Point grad and spent several years flying the Blackhawk. I talked to him at lunch and his thoughts were: (1) it is up to the blackhawk pilot to avoid commercial aircraft; (2) the Blackhawk is nearly impossible to see at night; (3) radar at airports is limited, and it is starting to be come antiquated. He pointed out that the radio reports indicate that the helicopter pilot was aware of jet, ATC told him about it, and he acknowledged it. Could be an instrument failure, could be an issue where the blackhawk pilot and crew were focused on internal controls. Could be anything.

I really don't need to blame anyone at the moment. 60 plus people lost their lives in an accident. I'm almost think some people on this board are actually not too upset because it becomes an easy off road to take a shit on someone.
