Allen

tom allen was good for iu i wish him well
Good for IU for two seasons until he lost key OC and QB- undisciplined in extreme and his teams played the same way. When he couldn’t anticipate onside kick versus UTenn he lost me, when he lost to 6-6 Ol Miss the next year in Tampa- I knew I was right- fraud is as fraud does. He’s a decent DC, a terrible HC

Idk, his teams were plagued by dumba$$ 15 yard penalties that extended drives for other teams. As a matter of fact, they were usually committed by repeat offenders. There was a culture that lacked accountability.
This is true, but the original premise here is that Tom called that cheap shot. I do not believe that to be true. Does he not hold idiots responsible? Yes, that we have seen.

Can't help but love that guy.
Tom Allen committed head coach malpractice when he sent an obviously not ready Michael Penix Jr. out to face a Phil Parker defense at Iowa. No single factor was more responsible for Allen’s success at IU than the generational talent of Michael,Penix Jr. and Allen put his future in jeopardy because of his belief that IU was a real contender for the East and the accompanying birth in the B1G conference game, that he claimed they had been cheated out of the year before.

There were conflicting reports regarding Michael’s physical condition but his performance clearly showed he was not mentally ready to face a major college defense, let alone one led by the dean of B1G defensive coordinators with 9 months to prepare. Michael’s unease was obvious until he was fortunate enough to suffer a minor injury that let him escape further damage.

Allen ultimately tried to cover his a$$ by firing Coach Sheridan (fine, his call) and claiming (at best misleading, in reality false) that he took a 3 year $200,000 year paycut to make it happen. In reality he signed Walt Bell for more than Sheridan was making, and Coach DeBoer picked Sheridan up minimizing the cost to IU under Sheridan’s contract.

Dolson should have never let that bravo sierra be given to the media. To Dolson’s eternal credit he did give Allen a most gracious parting gift and hire the right man for the job.

Allen became a rich man through his time at IU and is still in the game with a great jig at PSU. I hope we hang a hundred on them next year at Happy Valley and he a Franklin are given the opportunity to seek other employment.

There is so much wrong with this. First off Peyton Ramsey was a major contributor to as many victories in the time frame.I am not sure what coach malpractice you are s

Allen was only as good as his coordinators, particularly his offensive coordinator. I'm sure the same could be said for 85% of head coaches; Cignetti does look/feel different.

I wanted the Allen tenure to be a wild success. He did take Indiana to several upper tier bowl games and beat Michigan and Penn State in the same season. Many people point to the Gator Bowl loss to Tennessee as the major red flag signaling a lack of coaching chops...

Losing Deboer was a bridge too far for Allen to overcome. Allen's tenure is actually fairly if not very complex. He took over the program in stressful circumstances, encountered a global pandemic, and ultimately flamed out upon losing Deboer. BUT, he will forever be held in the hearts of Indiana football people for those two good seasons.

I try to remind people that Allen had 2 winning seasons of 7. The fact that his 2017 and 2018 squads couldn’t beat his rival to the north with a brand new coach really hurt him. We were coming off 4 straight Bucket victories and he went backwards. He could not beat Brohm either there or at Louisville. That was a huge factor. His calling card was defense and they progressively got worse.. we kept him around at least 1 season too long. Writing was on the wall in 2022.

No one ever questioned his enthusiasm. Compare his to Woodson and the contrast is glaring. I liked Tom Allen as a person. As a coach, he never got it over the hump. The Covid year was an anomaly that bought him extra time (and money) and gave us false hope of better days ahead, which never materialized until after he was fired.

“…dingleberries when you’re already late for work” - that’s the effort of a wordsmith

It wasn't out of bounds...

Check the tape dumbass...

33 should have been thrown out of the game...

He purposely speared him helmet to helmet from his blind spot (should have been targeting) and they were both nowhere near the play...

The jerk only got 15 yards (Unnecessary Roughness) for it... #33 was clearly intentionally attempting to injure the guy...; he launched himself from slightly behind and to the side from 2 yards away... Hell, Jeanty thought the play was over and was just standing there looking downfield...

Same guy (#33) got away with a cheap shot on the Boise QB in the endzone (to the rear of his helmet) with no call... That was a good 4 count After the ball had been thrown...

Try watching the game...
That's the PSU culture - not sure it's coached or condoned by Allen.

Remember how they head hunted Whop? And they get away with it, which is why they keep doing it.

His taking the Big Ten logo off of the jersey and replacing it with LEO really irked me. That and the fact that he was the last person to realize the weaknesses in his offensive coaching staff.
I can criticize Allen for a lot of things, but agree 100% with taking off the B1G logo, after we got fvcked out of the East Division championship, per rules established by the league before the season.

Yep. It was justified. It was (and probably still is) time for IU to stand up to the idiots running this conference. I can't imagine Cig ever tolerating some of the horse bleep treatment IU football has recieved for decades.
