Allen

tom allen was good for iu i wish him well
Good for IU for two seasons until he lost key OC and QB- undisciplined in extreme and his teams played the same way. When he couldn’t anticipate onside kick versus UTenn he lost me, when he lost to 6-6 Ol Miss the next year in Tampa- I knew I was right- fraud is as fraud does. He’s a decent DC, a terrible HC

Idk, his teams were plagued by dumba$$ 15 yard penalties that extended drives for other teams. As a matter of fact, they were usually committed by repeat offenders. There was a culture that lacked accountability.
This is true, but the original premise here is that Tom called that cheap shot. I do not believe that to be true. Does he not hold idiots responsible? Yes, that we have seen.

Can't help but love that guy.
Tom Allen committed head coach malpractice when he sent an obviously not ready Michael Penix Jr. out to face a Phil Parker defense at Iowa. No single factor was more responsible for Allen’s success at IU than the generational talent of Michael,Penix Jr. and Allen put his future in jeopardy because of his belief that IU was a real contender for the East and the accompanying birth in the B1G conference game, that he claimed they had been cheated out of the year before.

There were conflicting reports regarding Michael’s physical condition but his performance clearly showed he was not mentally ready to face a major college defense, let alone one led by the dean of B1G defensive coordinators with 9 months to prepare. Michael’s unease was obvious until he was fortunate enough to suffer a minor injury that let him escape further damage.

Allen ultimately tried to cover his a$$ by firing Coach Sheridan (fine, his call) and claiming (at best misleading, in reality false) that he took a 3 year $200,000 year paycut to make it happen. In reality he signed Walt Bell for more than Sheridan was making, and Coach DeBoer picked Sheridan up minimizing the cost to IU under Sheridan’s contract.

Dolson should have never let that bravo sierra be given to the media. To Dolson’s eternal credit he did give Allen a most gracious parting gift and hire the right man for the job.

Allen became a rich man through his time at IU and is still in the game with a great jig at PSU. I hope we hang a hundred on them next year at Happy Valley and he a Franklin are given the opportunity to seek other employment.
