While I wouldn’t clutch my pearls over a Beard hire. I REALLY hope that’s not how it goes down…or went down…sorry. I’m sure it’s already done as you said.

Fine with Beard... Hell, I wanted him 4 years ago but didn't think Whitten would sign off.
If true we will soon be hanging banners again.
I'm not a Beard detractor, I think he is a good coach. I'm just not sure he is elite, so my enthusiasm is tempered. He did go to the Championship game. He did go to an elite 8. He has made a place like Ole Miss good. But only twice has he not had double digit losses in a full season. Is he capable of those 3, 4, 5 loss seasons that make for #1/2 seeds? We shall see. I like that his teams over achieve consistently. Hopefully the answer is yes, and hopefully it IS at Indiana.
I just hope the new coach keeps Ole Clif Marshall so we can keep our Jenny Craig before and after photo shoots going.
We need to be past the days of RMK and old guard IU people having that much influence on the decisions our program is making.

rmk loved beard as a coach, this isn't an old guard hire, just powers that be, know what he thought
He loved Archie too. Beard isn’t Archie, but it was RMK people that saddled us with Woodson.
Barf. If Scott vetted and picked him okay. The Powers That Be (often the Old Guard) have played a big part in many of our bad hires.

I can’t with Cronin. In his tiny little suit, he looks absurd on the sideline. I’m sure if he won big at IU, that would become endearing. But I can’t hardly watch him at this point.
But, I'm not sure how much RMK knew Archie. I felt it was more that he knew of him. Maybe he knew him well, but he knew Beard intimately. Also what I loved about what Pitino had to say, that he went down there when he wasn't coaching and was in a couple of his practices and was impressed. Beard has a ton more personality and charisma than Archie. I don't think he'll be nearly as moody and glowering as Archie. I'm sure he'll get somewhat testy after losses, but overall I think the press likes him.
I thought archie was a good hire, the covid year he would have made the tournament, who knows how that might have changed the trajectory of his tenure. today is a shining example of what iu basketball should be, beard gets that
I agree on RMK/Beard. What I'm not sure of is where you are getting your info and with what level of confidence it is.
Mick Cronin is 17-3 when leading at half this season. And he wears adorable suits he picks up in the Kohl’s boys section.
I know, I am starting to believe that.

Ole Miss has four games left, then the SEC Tourney then is projected as a 6 seed in the NCAA tourney which begins March 18-19.
But do people really think a coach just walks away from all that, but doesn't tell his players, wife and kids they'll be moving, changing schools etc. or do they think the coach told all them all that and they kept their mouths shut? It's much too early to act like you know who the new coach will be. The word would be out by now.
Or are you guys talking about Beard, ZZTopp's drummer?
As an example, I know of one case in which the guy discretely started house hunting in his new location and the damned real estate agent started telling the sellers who the prospective buyer was. There's no way a sensible coach would disclose anything that would lead to that.

No they aren’t. You obviously haven’t done a deep dive on Beard’s head coaching career.
The difference is that Woodson was an NBA coach and not a very good one. Beard is a college coach and a good one.
