England's local elections have been ever worse for the Tories than expected. Labour picked up the lion's share of lost Conservative seats, but the biggest winners relatively speaking might be the Lib Dems, who had their best election in many years, and the Greens, who had their best election probably ever.

The Tories have been desperately trying to find their footing since their ugly semi-divorce with BoJo, which required the disastrous Truss government to get to the Sunak they really wanted. In all that, it seems they've lost a chunk of their voters, while simultaneously failing to convince new voters they have any clue what they are doing. It's not a surprise that Labour and the Lib Dems would gain from Tory incompetence, but the fantastic showing by the Greens may signal an even bigger shift in the electorate.

Absent an early election (which seems unlikely at this point for various reasons), the next UK general election will be in a little more than a year and a half. Considering that Starmer's leadership hasn't exactly been smooth so far, he's got to be feeling pretty good about how Labour is sitting at the moment.

Edit: Oh, yeah, there's also apparently something or other happening in London tomorrow.
