Across the pond

You seemed excited that Le Pen's far right party lost ground in the second round of voting. Yet, all that occurred was France enabling this guy and his ilk. They went from one extreme to the other.
Enabled? How so? That far-left party already had seats. They went from 69 to 74 seats (out of 577) in the latest election. In fact, the guy who said this has been in the National Assembly since 2022. Meanwhile, Le Pen's party went from 89 to 142 seats. They gained five times more seats than the far left party,

He caused massive consolidation amongst the left to prevent losing to the far right. You are looking at one of the four parties that came together to form the NPF. My understanding is that France Unabowed, Socialists, Greens and Communists came together to form the NFP, which as a bloc, is the largest contingent.

Now, he's having to defend the far left just as he was the far right. And the far left's rhetoric is just as awful, on top of ludicrous positions (90% top income tax bracket, for instance).

Who’s “he”? Portes did not do any of this. Portes is a lunatic bit player that has no sway, influence, or power. He’s like the MTG of the French far left. He’s not representative of the far left, let alone the NPF.

One guy was distributing the material in question, the other guy merely possessed it. Not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

Sure, but there should be some penalty for possession still, by UK law. And the perceived dangerousness seems skewed between the two.

For example possession of an indecent image of a child is a maximum of five years. While possession of a prohibited image of a child is a maximum of three years. However, offenders convicted of making or distributing child pornography can face up to 10 years in prison in the UK.

I'm sure, but I'm just pointing out an obvious red flag in trying to take any sort of lesson or conclusion from the tiny blurb shared in that tweet. I know nothing about the two cases in question, but it's obvious even from the person trying to force that connection that the connection is spurious at best.
