But but but,he didn’t make the tournament this year with an entirely new roster.
Didn’t realize making the tournament was one of the criteria used for the new coach.
Anyone who can’t see this is a major upgrade is not paying attention.
Woodson had no clue how to build a roster.
He just looked to see who the highest ranked players in the portal were and threw money at them.
This guy knows how to build a roster by needs and not the number of stars after his name.
The superior coaching alone will get IU 3-4 more wins next year.
I wasn't thrilled with the hire, but he's already passed one test, imo. I thought he'd lose the PC. He was nervous reading his prepared statement, but relaxed and responded very well to the questions. They were softball questions (our basketball media are all weenies), but he answered them all and said all the right things. He also did very well in the BTN interview which immediately followed.
He's in a similar position to where Michigan, Washington, and USC (and WV) were last year. They all needed 8 or 9 transfers. Worked out great for Michigan, pretty well for WV, and not so good for Washington & USC.
We're not going to get 8 or 9 good BT rotational players. Michigan got very good 'deals' with Wolf, Golden, and Donaldson, all of whom exceeded expectations. (Donaldson was something like #109 in the portal and was better than M. Rice). They also got some play from R. Jones who wasn't highly rated. But even Michigan only got 4 usable players out of (maybe) 8 transfers.
