absolutely no one is excited by this hire

But but but,he didn’t make the tournament this year with an entirely new roster.
Didn’t realize making the tournament was one of the criteria used for the new coach.
Anyone who can’t see this is a major upgrade is not paying attention.
Woodson had no clue how to build a roster.
He just looked to see who the highest ranked players in the portal were and threw money at them.
This guy knows how to build a roster by needs and not the number of stars after his name.
The superior coaching alone will get IU 3-4 more wins next year.

I wasn't thrilled with the hire, but he's already passed one test, imo. I thought he'd lose the PC. He was nervous reading his prepared statement, but relaxed and responded very well to the questions. They were softball questions (our basketball media are all weenies), but he answered them all and said all the right things. He also did very well in the BTN interview which immediately followed.

He's in a similar position to where Michigan, Washington, and USC (and WV) were last year. They all needed 8 or 9 transfers. Worked out great for Michigan, pretty well for WV, and not so good for Washington & USC.

We're not going to get 8 or 9 good BT rotational players. Michigan got very good 'deals' with Wolf, Golden, and Donaldson, all of whom exceeded expectations. (Donaldson was something like #109 in the portal and was better than M. Rice). They also got some play from R. Jones who wasn't highly rated. But even Michigan only got 4 usable players out of (maybe) 8 transfers.

With $7 million in NIL they should their pick of the litter. I expect a top 3 transfer class.

I don't care whether the fan base is "excited about the hire" or not...

Many of us were "excited" by the hire of Woodson... How'd that turn out.

They only thing I care about in regard to this guys hire is whether we're "excited" about our chances heading into the Tournament this time next year...

I like brainiac coaches......Knight, Stevens, Hurley, Coach K,J. Wright, Ben M.,,,,Gignetti...guys with a presence who are smarter than everyone else and talk to the students about life in the auditorium.....This guy is not that. He's a grinder (what Archie was said to be). I was afraid I'd see an Archie at the PC. He wasn't. He's a smart guy who's somewhat awkward, but I think he connects to recruits. Maybe Buzz-like? But hopefully a better game coach. Can you see him ever coaching a NC team? Don't know about that, but IU has to earn its way back for once, then we'll see.

Just seemed a little “awkward” reading his pre-written statement. Sounded very good during questions/answers.
Go Hoosiers!!

Reading a scripted statement so that it sounds natural is something that takes a bit of practice. Probably not something he's had to do very much.

Excited about Woodson hire? Most of us were shocked and thought Matta was going to be the coach. I never liked the Archie hire or Woodson hire I would of preferred at the times Alford for Archie and Matta over Woodson.

If we had hired Alford we'd still have him. Talk about a guy that could never be fired. He'd do well enough (better than Woodson) to always get more time. But we would not have any more banners.

I agree, but he was talking about basketball then. He strikes me as something of an 'everyman'. A guy you wouldn't mind having a beer with. Something of an introvert, but will do what is necessary to win basketball games.

No banners, but if at IU would probably would have had a couple of elite 8s and a few sweet 16s.....maybe win 67% overall, 60% in conference.

Woodson won 60% here, and he's one of the worst P5 college coaches I've ever seen. I think the worst in the BT this year.

I hope to hell it’s not Quinn Snyder
I think Pitino is probably fine in NY and that was from an article from a couple weeks ago. Today's article has a list that includes Sean Miller and Scott Drew along with snyder and Donovan.

I think D-Rock will be able to duplicate his Drake accomplishments at IU. He'll be competitive. I think in the long-term it's got a very Greg Gard feel, ceiling Underwood. He'll get us a conference tournament championship. Every few years the second weekend.

I'd like a banner by the end of the decade. After that I'm on borrowed time.
