They should outlaw all 7pm games in November north of the Mason-Dixon Line, imo.
I guess I'm just getting old.
They did...until the past couple of year$. Question for the panel. Have we ever had a game where we tailgated before a game but after dark? Cannot think of one because all of our night games have occurred before the clocks changed in my memory. Also, plenty of games ended after dark, but have any started an hour and a half after dark?
Is this a safety issue in the grass lots? I've been over there after dark, and it's dark dark.
I was thinking that used to be a rule, too.
Money, of course, overrides tradtion every time.

Got to start looking for all my cold weather gear. I haven’t done this in years. Is there a limit to how many blankets you can bring? Or can you even bring them. Will concessions sell hot chocolate and coffee? Important info !
The good news is you probably will be able to move to much better seats.
They indicate that the game was sold out weeks ago but will be interesting to see how many actually show up with students on break and the weather + all the fans who will bail on the team after the OSU game.
My friend sold his parking pass for around $400 and got $1,000 for his 4 tickets. He used them to buy tickets for the oSU game, which I don't understand why, but whatever - there was a huge demand for Bucket tickets.
I’m afraid the student section will be about half full. Why they didn’t move the season a week up in August is beyond me. Having games on Thanksgiving break is just stupid.
Especially a rivalry game, which the students probably care about more than the players.
I'd venture that 90% of rivalry games are this week
Yes, it’s still puzzling playing after Thanksgiving when many students are out of town.
It's been that way for a long time. Didn't always used to be, but definitely after they went to 12 games.

I was trying to remember when the game moved to post Thanksgiving. Forgot about the 2nd bye week.
I would be in favor of moving it to earlier in the season when the students were in session and when both teams were at full strength and still playing to get bowl eligible. With the students gone, if one team or the other (or both) is not very good, it kind of sucks some life out of the game. If it has to stay where it is, it would be nice if it could be played at LOS each year with the ticket allotment split evenly between the schools. Of course, it would also interfere with the high school state finals.
Hopefully, with this being a night game, IU will open campus housing up on Saturday so students can return a day early and go to the game.
It's the rivalry game in our first-ever 10+ win season. Any "fan" who bails after losing on the road to arguably the best team in the country isn't a fan.
Yes, they allow blankets. Best to bring them in the clear plastic bags. It is going to be really cold sitting on that huge hunk of concrete. We are digging out everything we have to think about bringing.
I won't disparage anyone who sits this one out for the comfort of their own living room, especially older folks or those with young kids. I only live 45 minutes away and can tolerate the cold without any problem. If I lived three or more hours away and couldn't take four hours in sub-freezing temps, I would be hesitant to put myself through the drive and the discomfort. Mrs. Cougar has another commitment and told me to take a buddy. When she found out the start time and the weather forecast, she suddenly didn't mind missing the OOB game at all. Late November night games should be relegated strictly to the stadiums of our new conference friends on the West coast.
I don't disagree and I'm not disparaging people who, for whatever reason, can't deal with the cold. I am disparaging anyone who, to quote the poster I was responding to, "bails on the team" as a result of the loss to Ohio State.
I think a lot of the students will be coming back a day early, especially with a night game. I know some of the sororities and frats are opening on Saturday.
Biggest game of their lives, and Indiana’s history. Win this game and they are in the playoffs. The Purdue game scares the piss out of me!
The Big Ten watched as Urban Meyer (then at Florida) and Gary Danielson of CBS lobby endlessly about “no rematches” after the 1 vs 2 Ohio State/Michigan game of 2006. Back then, the league gave all teams Thanksgiving week off. And there was no Big Ten Championship game (as the league was still 11 teams, one short of the number needed to hold a CCG). Florida beat a .500 Florida State team Thanksgiving weekend by 7 and then the following week beat Arkansas by 10 in the SEC Championship game. Ohio State was locked into the BCS Championship game as #1 and there was endless debate over who should be #2, Florida or Michigan.
It was quickly understood that the holiday weekend was full of TV viewers across the country and the Big Ten could do nothing to change a narrative via results on the field. I believe the extension of the regular season was complete by 2008.
The NCAA requires special dispensation to teams seeking to play “week 0” games (prior to Labor Day holiday weekend). That may change if the NFL proceeds with plans to move up the opening regular season games to that same weekend in a year or two.

That was one of the more memorable games in IU football history I would say. The game winning field goal for Hep to make us bowl eligible. Very emotional moment for so many people.
I've told this story here before, but I sit in the west stands. At the start of the 4th quarter, a dove flew from the north end of the stadium to the south. A lone dove. I never saw that before or since.
I told my friends that was an omen. And then when they lined up for the winning FG, I knew they were going to make it - the dove flew in the direction the FG was going. I think that dove was a sign, I really do.
Interesting you mention that because I remember being at Assembly Hall the next day (Sunday) for men's basketball. At the time I had access to the Hospitality Room and a guy form the Varsity Club said he was on field level for the 4th quarter and the wind was picking up-blowing into the direction IU would kick. But just as IU lined up for the field goal, the wind stopped-and Austin Starr's kick cleared the cross bar by a tiny bit-then the wind picked up again. He was certain it was an assist from above, courtesy of Hep.
