#1 Auburn vs. #2 Bama in basketball ... and IU making the playoffs in football. We're living in bizarro world.
And even though these SEC teams are dominating college bball, it still burns up all these southerners I live around that they no longer dominate FB
Same thing with us and basketball. Sec is football first we are bball first.
I love cig and what he’s doing for IU football but I’d trade a final four for a football national championship any day. Hell prob trade it for 2 back to back championships in football.
I’d take either and be thrilled. Have to admit when I went to IU-Neb Fball game this year it was as exciting as any bball game I’ve ever attended
well, Bama lost so that eliminates Oats. But, wait, Auburn has also lost, so they are eliminated. I sure hope someone goes undefeated so we have the hope we'll have a coach next year.

A football championship brings way more to an athletic program then a basketball championship. Sure, they're both great, but the monetary value in one football championship is light years more valuable then a basketball championship.
Last 2 fball natty’s sit in the B1G while SEC dominates the bball polls. Were a fball conf now while they are the bball conf. At least until mid March. We’ll see how they fair in the tourney.
Side note -Kansas fans have to be a little disappointed in the NIL investment this yr.
Can’t agree with this. Of course I would love to see either one but if forced to choose a basketball natty over a football natty I would certainly go with football. Much less comparing to a basketball final four. Are you kidding me?
Who cares. Indiana football is like when you a get a $5 reward at a store for being a loyal customer. You go use your coupon and you think : "i had to spend thousands here to get a $5 coupon".
Indiana basketball is the reason the term "nation" was applied to a fanbase. Nothing more to say. It's a wave of emotion and when they are good, it's an elixir for what ails.
You couldn't be more wrong. Just look at the home football games to end last season. Hoosier Nation as you say is looking for a great football team they just haven't had any reason until last year. Memorial Stadium was rocking last year and Cig will keep it that way.

Like it or not, football is so much more important to a school then basketball, it's not even on the same playing field. Football brings so much money and resources that basketball could only hope to one day provide.
Change has happened. Much like everything else in the world, Indiana is always one of the last to adapt, this being another case in point.
There's nothing better to watch than SEC lover Finebaum lose his shit because IU got in to the CFP ... and Bama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina did not.
Some guys need Viagra to get a boner. All Finebaum needs to do is look at a picture of Bryant-Denny Stadium while "Rocky Top" plays in the background.
I used to be the same way. Now if I am choosing a nat’l title in one sport vs the other, I am going with basketball every time. But a FF birth vs a nat’l title in football, I am going with the football title.
That was the coolest game. As close to a perfect game as I’ve seen played. It’s when we really knew how good we could be.
I can't wait for football season to start. I can't wait for basketball to end. Coach Allen was a loser. He coached with low expectations his last two years. The fans felt it. The players felt it. The recruits felt it. Cig changed that in his first appearance. Need a badass coach or I will stay football focused.
Cig values production over hype. Recognizes players over posers. Basketball needs some of that. Let Cig interview the candidates.

We have 1 good football season and suddenly we’re a football school and the money football brings in is what matters.
You people probably couldn’t name 5 IU football players but you could probably tell us the starting lined ups for the basketball team the last 50 years.
I would bet more people know who Brian Sloan is compared to that really good linebacker for the football team last year.
It took like 5 games for us to even start selling out the stadium. Hell even the coach had to send out an email. ‘Go to the games please.’

Not trying to start a war here. Just making a point that seems lost on this new found love of winning for an IU football fan that had to have an email sent to them from the coach to actually… go and stay… at the game. Till like, you know, the game was actually over.

Indiana basketball is generations deep.
IU football had a magical year that was wonderful.
1 is different than the other.
Many reasons. We have bball titles, we don't have cfball titles. Football provides more publicity and thereby money that can be used in both sports.
Money is of no issue for IU, everyone in the B1G has loads of it. Especially IU, OSU MI, Oregon, USC, UCLA. Maybe a few more.
I am just speaking for me alone, but I am obsessed with IU basketball. More than any other team in any sport by a mile. It is a sickness I wish I could rid. Cure could be another shit coach.
For sure, my point was basketball doesn't raise more money for football. So give me football, and by a mile.
This thread went off topic fast. @GRIU8, you are proposing what happened in football- the JMU takeover of the program. I loved the football season and could see bringing a basketball coach a few key players, but the starting 5? IU basketball becomes the Magnificent Seven
One other thing.......................we haven't won a NC in ANYTHING in quite some time. Winning a national championship in FOOTBALL would be unreal. Off the charts.
When we were good Indiana basketball (and, in the old days, the Indiana HS basketball tourney) helped to bridge the time between late Fall and Spring. Hurrying to get into Assembly Hall to get out of the cold and then coming in to watch a barnburner against Purdue or Illinois for the BTC with people all the way to the rafters. Amazing. I miss the hell out of it.
On the other hand, the walk along the grass lots for a big football game on a warm September day has other attractions........yikes.
