Army Rangers are obviously a decent military unit as a whole. Well armed, well trained.
I know a smart mouth who became a Ranger. I used to beat on him in Junior High. The softest most mentally fragile person I’ve ever met.

A kid in my daughter's class, who I used to coach in soccer and was friends with his dad, joined the Rangers in 2011. It was all he ever wanted to do. He and another kid in their class were absolutely military historians. Weird kids, in their own way, but smart.
This kid wasn't a bad ass, but he was really motivated and loved the military. To be a Ranger, you don't have to be a bad ass - you have to be willing to never give up and fight to the end. I'm not sure how you watched that show and came to the conclusion these were anything other than elite units. Or maybe you're buying the movie version of what Rangers are. Trapped like they were, they still fought their way out. They were badly outnumbered.
The military isn't made up of supermen or women. It's made up of regular Americans who joined for various reasons, but work as a team for the national defense. They're not machines - they're humans, and humans screw up. They're also capable of amazing achievements in the face of overwhelming odds.
Let us know the next time you jump out of a plane with a full pack or rapel down a roap from a helicopter.
