It’s been awhile since I’ve been active on the boards so not sure if there’s a thread dedicated to the leagues.

I grew up playing youth soccer and in high school but outside of the World Cup I never really paid attention to what was happening on the pitch in Europe. That is until about last year when I started collecting sports cards. Soccer was the last sport I started collecting but I took the stance that the game is growing and interest in the US will peak with the World Cup coming here. So I decided to start buying cards. I invested money in rookie cards for Messi, Ronaldo, Haaland, Bellingham, Kane and taking some flyers on players like Kobe Mainoo, Yamal and Endrick. I also had a couple Pele Autos. Unfortunately long story short the height of modern card collecting took off during Covid and values have dropped significantly. The companies are also producing too many cards and so there’s more supply than demand. So my card collecting has reintroduced me to players overseas and now I can’t help but watch soccer constantly.

I’ve yet to adopt an EPL team but I do tend to watch Man U as I’ve been a fan of youngsters Mainoo and Garnacho. In the Bundesliga I kinda adopted Dortmund and was super excited with transfer of Serhou Guirassy and was captivated by their run in the Champions League. They really should have beaten Real Madrid. I haven’t really gotten into the Italian Serie A, but I do keep tabs on AC Milan because of Pulisic, Juventus for the Americans and also Inter Milan because I invested in a couple of Lautoro Martinez cards.

In Spain im far and away a Barcelona fan. Basically I can’t stop watching Lamine Yamal. Kid is the real deal and they have so much young talent. Not to mention old man Lewandowski is still playing amazing.

I say to heck with all of the prognosticators, and all of the Hoosier football naysayers! This Indiana football team is in a position to do what very few teams can do at this point, and that is control their own destiny. I am sure that our coaching staff is knocking it out of the park in keeping this team focused on the next game. Beat Ohio State!

Jefferson County, Kentucky has the largest school system in the state. They have many problems. Not enough school bus drivers. Too much violence on school buses. Too much violence in schools and at scgool events. Top heavy administrative jobs. Still busing kids up to four hours a day as leftover vestiges of required “diversity“ numbers left over from 1970s bussing required by federal court decisions.

The “equity officer“ is the second highest paid administrative officer in the system. He is African-American. He is a highly visible leader in the community. He recently revealed in posts on his private social media that after the election, he received messages from young black professionals and students seeking his advice on “a strategy“ “moving forward.“

He advised them as follows:

“REGARDLESS of the rooms, meetings, classes, etc., you’re in, know THE MAJORITY of whites could care less about you and have no issues harming you or others.”

In a subsequent post, he said, “Strategy. Count the number in your presence and divide by at least half.”

A group of GOP legislators started raising hell - demanding he be fired or resign.

The former head of the African-American studies program at U of L issued an op ed comparing that demand to slaveholders “breaking” strong-willed slaves.

The current head of the NAACP weighed in claiming that the GOP was silent when locals here received post-election racist message (like the ones at IU and elsewhere) and just really wanted to “take over” the school system and run it from Frankfort.

The JCPS response so far was to say “these posts were not made on behalf of the school school or using JCPS assets.” The only person who can fire this officer is the lame duck Superintendent who has announced retirement after 2 horrible bus plans failed.

Note that these speakers are all highly-educated (Ph.D) and highly compensated. The Equity Officer makes $200,000. (The NAACP objects to this salary having been made public by the GOP - but it is already public knowledge as part of the system budget process.)
