Kamara---34 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 4 QB hurries, 2 FRs, 2 FFs. Comparing him to some former IU greats--

TFL--Van Waiters 24.0 in 1985; T. Scales 23.5 in 2018; Wally O. 21 in 1997; n. Davis 20 in 1995; Aaron Casey 20 in 2023; Jamie Kirlew 18.5 in 2008; Joe Huff 19 in 1988; G. Ferrell 18 in 1991; Wally O. 1998; Ed McGuire 17 in 1970 & 1969, G. Middleton 17.0 in 2007. So...he has a ways to go to get in the top 10 there, but a couple of those guys were LBs.

Sacks--Middleton 16 in '07; Waiters 14 in '97; Huff 11 in '88; Kirlew 10.5 in '88; Wally O. 10 in '97; N. Mangini 9.5 in '15. So Kamara is already tied for 6th in sacks. He could end up third by the end of the year.

A few thoughts here---Kamara has been so outstanding that I've thought to myself, "Have we ever had anyone this good"....but when I look at that list I think there's some recency bias, because guys like Wally O., Kirlew, Davis, Waiters et al were pretty damn good also. My memory may be faulty here, but I believe of all those guys listed Middleton may have been the only one who was named 1st team AA???. I do feel, perhaps, that Kamara may play the run better than did some of those guys, esp. Middleton.

So does he have a chance to be a 1st or 2nd team AA? Well, here is where team success may come into play. Right now he's tied for 5th nationally in sacks. He's a little behind behind guys from San, Diego St., VT, Marshall, BC and tied with a guy from S. Carolina, but I hope the team's success and the exposure he's received gets it done.

Ponds--44 tackles, 2 ints, 5 PBUs, 1 BK. 44 tackles seems like a lot for a CB with 3 games left to play. After MSU saw what Ponds did v. Washington, they chose not to challenge him. He still got in the action with a blocked kick. He's a guy who I think is playing at as high a level as any Indiana CB of the past. Guys like Fant, Mullen, Eric Allen, Tim Wilbur come to mind. Tracy Porter may have been the best. This guy seems to be right up there with them. I see Pro Football Focus has him rated #6 among all college cornerbacks in a couple of important categories. To me, Kamara seems like a more likely choice for 1st or 2nd team AA honors, but we'll see what happens. He does look like a lock for 1st team ABT and he or Will Johnson from UM will probably be DB of the Year.

That offense is horrible, but still the best of the 3 phases.

IU is 9 games in, 10 weeks counting the bye week. We are no longer a mystery and haven’t been since the UCLA game. Our offensive/defensive strategies and sets are fully known by all of our opponent’s staffs. The reason they can’t beat us is that there is too much high level play in too many areas to shut us down. Not only that, we are deep in each category. Stop the run, ok, we pass - to one guy? No, 6 or 7 or 8. Stop the pass, and we drive it down your throat, with one guy? No, 2 or 3 or 4.

On the defensive side, defense is simply defense. We are tougher than our opponents all the way from the defensive line through the linebackers to the d-backs, again strong in all areas and even though it may be evenx in the first, second quarters, in the words of Cig - we eventually break their will.

This aspect was our nemesis for decades - especially with the Michigan’s, Michigan State’s, Ohio State’s, etc. We have flipped it and because of this, in my opinion, we are favored from here on out because no other team in the B1G has this level of strength in this many areas of their team.

Although always possible, I’ll be surprised if we lose.

There was no way I was missing IU’s chance at history yesterday at MSU. Was an impressive turnout by IU fans in EL. Both teams and their fans knew we were there!!! The 4th quarter was nothing, but IU chants. Keep it rolling at home team and fans!!!

The way has been paved. Can they jump any higher? 8 Notre Dame and 9 BYU did not play. I would put Indiana ahead of the Irish for sure, they lost to a MAC team. BYU has been impressive but I would still give the nod to the Cigniana Hoosiers. 🚬

Will the voters agree? Meh, it's getting late in the season so things are less fluid. It could happen but I'd be a little surprised.

This absolutely won't happen but you can make the argument to put Indiana ahead of Penn State and Tennessee, which would put us in 6th. Again I'm not predicting it but a rational case can be made imo.

Can IU win a national football championship before pu wins a national championship in baskeball?

I was refreshing my memory this morning on past seasons, and I'm thinking this Saturday's game against the Wolverines will be our biggest home game since the 1967 Bucket game that punched our ticket to Pasadena.

What other home games since the Rose Bowl season have been huge? The first that comes to mind is the October 1987 game against Michigan, the game where Schembechler complained about the crowd noise at Memorial Stadium. That was definitely a big game (and huge win), coming on the heels of our "darkest day" win in Columbus a few weeks earlier. But it was only October, IU was just 3-0 in conference play coming in, and our #15 national ranking was lower than what it's going to be this weekend.

What else? 2020 was a special season. IU was 6-1 in conference play. But it was the shortened Covid season, and with only hundreds in attendance, it's tough to consider any of those games among IU's all-time biggest home games. (That Penn State game, though, and Michael Penix's dive for the pylon, will always be memorable).

What's at stake this Saturday? A win against Michigan would give us a 10-win season for the first time in program history. It would also enhance our position in the CFP rankings, increasing our chances of appearing in the 12-team playoff. Finally, a win this weekend would almost guarantee a no-worse-than 11-1 regular season (Purdue is awful) and a possible date in Indy on December 7.

I predicted 42-14. It was 47-10. My bad. I'm still cautious but now it has nothing to do with IU but the fact that, in my lifetime, I've never seen an IU football team like this. How do I act? I find myself feeling like a hiker in the woods and night has fallen, hoping you don't step off a cliff, that the other shoe doesn't drop, that you don't discover where the chickens have come to roost. You can't discount the remaining games (even if Purdue is sucking) but 12-0? Why the hell not. I may grow hair, win the lottery or take a beautiful Colombian bride. Seems all manner of miracles are possible.

I only saw one highlight from the game and it was N. Marsh's nice TD catch for MSU on Top 10 Plays of the Day. The only other mention was from Chris Fowler who briefly lumped IU into the "Sitting Pretty category" with the other B1G three..OSU, PSU and Oregon for the Playoffs. I guess the peeing match with Peacock keeps the highlight reel to a minimum. Gees!
I guess we just have to keep on decleating our opponents and finish unbeaten to finally get the Love this team deserves!!

there will only be 5 undefeated teams left in FBS football after tonight. PSU, ISU and Pitt(who is trailing 31-3 @ Halftime) will have suffered their first setback. If Louisville holds on against Clemson and if SC can pull one off against Texas A&M (tied 20-20 @Half) IU should make a move in the rankings.
