Don Fischer Talks Football

In an interview with Indiana Sports Talk, Fisch talks about CC and the team at around the 25:45 mark.

Really interesting notes from Fisch about how practice is run and how they prep for practice.

Will Professor Lichtman be correct again in 2024?

As he makes clear in this video, Prof Lichtman is not yet ready to make a prediciton between Trump/Biden. I know he's been mentioned once or twice and people may have a general idea how he uses his keys to predict Preesidential elections. But this video session goes into great detail about how his keys came to be and exactly what he evaluates...

This video is a little long, and won't be for everyone. I personally found it extemely enlightening. And spolier alert I didn't know the other guy was his son until at least half way thru. But because of that relationship the video has a lot more personal insight and imho he opens up a lot more than with other hosts I have seen him appear with. I also liked the color code chart that they use to illustrate exactly where each of the 13 keys stands presently...

It doesn't seem like any personal bias or preference enters in. Just an objective application he's used every election since Reagan's re-election in '84 and how he measures each key.

As if public confidance in SCOTUS wasn't already cratering...

This is not going to sit well with anyone who believes in seperation of Church and State...

I looked to make sure there wasn't a thread on this already, because it's everywhere on mainstream media...

Rather than post any of the videos that provide political commentary, I'm just going to post the various audio comments so people can judge for themselves...

Three things stand out to me...

First of all Lauren Windsor essentially recorded a similar undercover tape of Alito before. So I'm kind of surprised he fell for it again. The earlier conversation is on this tape as well. He seems a lot more moderate on the recording she made in the wake of Dobbs. Although it strikes me as disengenuous when he discusses the Dobbs leaker, since a lot of people feel the leaker was him or one of his clerks...

Secondly I'm struck by what he says and the fact that he would make these comments to a virtual stranger at some sort of public function. Like I said I think people who value a seperation of Church/State are going to be bothered by what he says. It seems he's decided to "let his freak flag fly"... In more ways than one...

And thirdly the most (pleasantly) surprising thing to me is the contrast between what Alito says and what we hear Roberts say. IMHO, this is how you should respond to the questions posed and issues raised. Whether you feel the person asking the questions is a kindred spirit or not...

Hard to believe they were both nominated by the same POTUS. They almost seem diametrically opposed on how they view society. And apparently disagree on their role as members of the highest court in the land...

Northwestern 2024

Without Buie, Northwestern may have the most boring team in the BT in 2024-25.

Ty Berry and Brooks Barnhizer are the headliners. The rotation guys look to be:

--Ty Berry, 6'3"
--Brooks Barnhizer, 6'6"
--John Leach, 6'4" TR
--Matthew Nicholson, 7'0"
--Nick Martinelli, 6'7"
--Luke Hunger, 6'10"
--Keenan Fitzmorris, 7'0" TR
--KJ Windham, 6'3"

The first 5 listed look like the starters. Leach is a 5th year guy who had a nice year at Fairfield as a combo guard. Hunger is a viable back-up at Center/PF. Fitzmorris was not a highly ranked guy. Windham, from Indy, looks like he might play significant minutes although he was only a 130ish rated recruit.

Prediction: Depth is a major concern here. NW's '24 class and transfer class taken together was probably the worst in the BT, with MN being the only competition. NW really only has 6 guys who look like capable BT players. Leach looks may be the back-up PG as well as the starting 2. The team looks slow and offensively challenged, Roll players like Marinelli, Nicholson & Hunger who prospered in Buie's shadow may have a tougher go without him. NW looks like a 11th-15th place BT team in '24/25.

Progressive v. conservative views of the Constitution, government, and why it's hard to get things done in the US political system

Can a document unify a nation? Listen as Levin speaks with EconTalk's Russ Roberts about how the Constitution not only took into account fractious politics, but also ensured that polarization would lead to a stronger democracy.

Topics include the inherent limitations placed on the majority and how that affects policy formation, the vital if misunderstood advantages of the electoral college, and why, despite all the warnings to the contrary, this is far from a dangerous moment in American political history.

Blue suffers another 9-0 shutout

On the heels of deep blue Colorado getting stuffed 9-0 in the Trump ballot case, deep blue New York gets shut out 9-0 in the NRA free speech case. (New York? What a shocker).

Essentially the New York financial regulators tried to coerce financial institutions into blackballing the NRA because New York doesn’t approve of the NRA message. New York lost 9-0

Two important take aways. First, Indirect government coercion is the same as direct suppression. Second, institutional viewpoint discrimination is particularly harmful to democracy.

The ACU, was on the NRA’s side. This is why I used to be a member.

OT: Indiana State...

With their head coach Mitch Hannahs taking the South Florida job, it will be interesting to see who takes over that job and what staff members will follow Hannahs to Tampa, if any. How all of this affects their roster remains to be seen, and they say they have initiated a nationwide search for a new coach. South Florida came in 9th in the 10-team AAC this past season and they had their third straight losing season. Luke Hayden will be drafted so he will probably move on after having a great season with the Sycamores this past season.
